Ready for Day 2
Is your clinical practice built around a tool? 🤔
or
is it built around a framework?
•
tools are great to solve specific problems, but if your practice is built around a tool, you will find every reason to use that tool for every single problem.
It removes your ability to clinical reasoning
And creates bias
•
A practice built around tools is a professional trap.
where not only you will justify to use it for every single problem, but clients will expect you to use it for every single problem.
•
Frameworks use fundamental principles and best clinical reasoning that will show you
When to use
the right tool
for the right person
for the right problem
And at the right time.
•
frameworks allow you to build more tools into your clinical practice for better outcomes.
Thumbs up in the comments if you agree.👍
•

Beyond Aspiration - Why Should We Care, and What Else Matters?
Dropping Tues, Jan 29 @ 5AM EST!
Explore variables beyond aspiration that impact dysphagia-related pneumonia in our patients. Our guest, John R. Ashford, Ph.D., brings a wealth of knowledge from his experience in clinical practice, academia, and research. Furthermore, we discuss lab values, education, life-long learning, and how SLPs can become more medically-focused in their patient care. Join us as Dr. Ashford provides valuable insights to help bridge the gap between research and practical clinical application.
“What I know doesn’t belong to me; what people know really doesn’t belong to them; we’re nothing but conduits; we simply are passing along what others have taught us, and we’ve made sense out of it.”
-John Ashford
John R. Ashford, Ph.D., is Education Director/Co-Owner of SA Swallowing Services, Nashville, TN. He is retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Medical Speech-Language Pathologist, and as a Professor at Tennessee State University and the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Professional interests include understanding factors associated with pneumonia development in patients with dysphagia, and educating and training providers of FEES services.

SRNA ---> CRNA
Success 101
Over the past several years,
I have trained numerous SRNAs and helped them become successful CRNAs.
And I use the same five techniques every time:
Technique #1:
Clinical Skills Mastery
How it works:
-Start with the basics and gradually introduce more complex procedures
-Practice regularly under supervision
-Continually update your knowledge and skills with the latest research and guidelines
This simple technique allows you to become proficient in various anesthesia procedures.
Technique #2:
Communication Skills Development
How it works:
-Learn to listen actively to patients, their families, and the healthcare team
-Practice clear and concise communication
-Develop empathy and understanding
Quick note: Don’t assume you know what others are thinking or feeling.
Ask questions and clarify to avoid misunderstandings.
Technique #3:
Stress Management
How it works:
-Avoid excessive caffeine and sugar
-Do regular exercise and relaxation techniques
-Get enough sleep
If you avoid stress triggers and adopt healthy coping strategies,
you’ll unlock a more balanced and productive professional life.
Easy, right?
PS. Practice mindfulness, it HELPS.
Technique #4:
Lifelong Learning
How it works:
-Attend conferences and workshops
-Read medical journals regularly
-Participate in online learning and discussion forums
Do these 3 things,
and you’ll stay at the forefront of your field.
Technique #5:
Networking
How it works:
-Join professional organizations
-Attend industry events
-Connect with peers and mentors online
That’s it!
In the comments,
let me know which one of these techniques you found most helpful.
Happy to do another post going into more depth on whichever one you find most interesting.
