🕛 At the stroke of midnight on Sunday 25 August 2024 we will say farewell to The Treasury Brisbane after 29 years as caretaker of this magnificent building. It is an important symbol of the development and progress of Queensland 's history. The Queensland Government Cabinet met in the building until 1905, when the Premier's Department moved into the Executive Building (subsequently known as the Lands Administration Building) in George Street. Government offices continued to occupy the building in one shape or form until the late 1990s when it was sold and converted into what is now known as Treasury Brisbane's casino, after the Registrar-General moved out. A new owner will soon be announced as we look ahead to the highly anticipated first phase of opening of #TheStarBrisbane on Thursday 29 August. Gaming operations will cease at 11.00pm and the property will close totally an hour later at midnight. Treasury Hotel will remain open after this date with both part of the nine heritage buildings that make up the #QueensWharfBrisbane precinct. #queenslandhistory
I was part of the opening, a wonderful team, particularly the nightshift. Miss you all.
One of the best postings ever in my career! A very classy property with an outstanding staff!
As part of the team that opened this site and then saw it become a successful casino property, it is sad to see it closing down, but the beautiful building will remain in some form.
Many fond memories of my time as Executive Chef, great team and amazing venue #farewell #bonappetite #treasury #proud
Well done The Star Entertainment Group - you finally got the right building! I remember working there as a recent graduate civil engineer for the Department of Local Government (last century, admittedly). The centre was a huge void open to the sky, big enough to turn a carriage around, entry off Elizabeth Street. The Registry Office was lower right per this image, and the Department of Main Roads was the left hand side: Russ Hinze was the Minister! Great days 😊
Sophie, An amazing moment for the granddaughter of Joe and Rita St Ledger who worked so hard to stop the demolition of Historical Buildings in Brisbane. All of your grandparents are really really proud of you, Sars xxx
One beautiful building, will be exciting to see its new future. Have met a lot of beautiful people in this building over the last 29 years. Thankyou for the memories 👏👏👏
I started work here pre-opening. I can’t believe it was 29 years ago. I met some truly great people working here and enjoyed some serious party life when we weren’t working. I hope life is still that much fun for current casino staff.
