How to you become grateful? First by taking by your right to choose for yourself what you want to be and who you want to live for in life. Then learn to become confident in tha choice even if you make a mistake. You must learn to embrace mistakes, as we all no doubt make them. It’s okay to make a mistake as long as you take accountability for that mistake even if it’s one that only hurts you. Take accountability for yourself to yourself and learn to be comfortable with just allowing yourself some grace, understanding, compassion and forgiveness. The best way to practice forgiveness is by forgiving yourself first. To forgive one must understand why, find the root of the cause, correct it and move on leaving the shame and guilt of that mistake in the past. It belongs in the past not the present. No one should be made or feel as if they should carry that shame and guilt for as long as I did, a year, a day, an hour later. Allow yourself to feel the shame, remorse, the guilt, embracing each, then forgive yourself and let go. If you truly learned your lesson from the mistake you made then let it go. If you took accountability and apologized, corrected your behavior even if only to yourself for a mistake that only caused yourself harm, follow the steps and let it go.
