“Glad to be here” This weekend I saw the Blue Angels IMAX movie - it was shot by the same team who did Top Gun: Maverick. In other words, it was incredible. Some things you will notice if you watch this examination of a high preforming team in pursuit of perfection are: 1) They have a ritual of saying “Glad to be here” during both good and difficult circumstances like a debrief about something that wasn’t up to standard - good times or bad, they recognize the blessing and responsibility of being on the team 2) They debrief everything (in high definition). 3) Practice practice practice, reps reps reps. 4) The team puts a big focus on physical fitness 5) Imposter syndrome is real for almost everyone - even super cool, top tier, A Type aviators. Realizing it is the first step to managing it and pushing through towards owning your role. If you’re in StL be sure to see it at Saint Louis Science Center on the omnimax screen. Powerful message with an authentic voice that resonates in a thought provoking way.

Some Career Coaches misguide clients into thinking that they can just transfer their skills to their chosen career path. Regrettably, that is only half the equation. If you lack confidence and cannot connect your career story in an authentic way to your next career choice you will not be affective. Adam Driver hasn't shared the interim journey from Marine to actor, but he probably struggled in the beginning. ✔You need a credible strategy, a bridge to your next career and have the confidence to pull it off. He has the confidence, he is charismatic, physically tall and has executive presence, all qualities which helped his career. ✔He also studied the craft of acting to become the great actor he is today. ✔Someone also gave him an opportunity and recognized his potential which launched his career; how did Adam do that? ✔With career change you need to develop new networks and new connections as people that knew you before tend to see you a certain way and often times cannot see you in another career. So it's not so simple as just having transferable skills as many career coaches tell clients leading them astray. Mission first, Marines always. Doctrinal publications, Professional Military Education, and Service Level Training Exercises reinforce the necessary hard skills to lead, train, and educate Matines. All those tools scaffold mission accomplishment. Next time you’re selecting a piece of literature to read or listen to, go outside your comfort zone. Read something from the humanities that helps you understand the Corps most valuable asset: human capital; i.e. the Marines.

Significance of Pearl Harbor : '"Americans remember that this attack launched the United States into World War II. We should also remember this date as a symbol of American grit and resilience. Why? Because by April 1942, 16 Army Air Corp B-25 bombers were taking off from the USS Hornet. Under the passionate leadership of Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle, these men launched a first-of-its-kind bomber assault on mainland Japan overcoming immense odds to strike a powerful psychological blow. Then, in June—just six months after the Pearl Harbor attack crippled the U.S. Pacific Fleet—that same U.S. fleet defeated the Japanese Navy in the Battle of Midway. What the Japanese expected to be a demoralizing loss for the United States became a decisive victory and critical a turning point in America’s Pacific campaign."
