We are grateful for Congressman Brad Sherman's unwavering support of The Veterans Collective and our nation's heroes who will live and benefit from the community we're creating at the West LA VA North Campus. Congressman Sherman is advancing legislation that would ensure service-related disability benefits do not count as income, which could disqualify servicemembers from receiving Veterans housing vouchers. It is imperative that vulnerable Veterans can access permanent supportive housing and receive the services, stability, and opportunity for a more hopeful future they deserve. Take Action to Protect Benefits for Disabled Veterans! H.R. 6362, the Protecting Benefits for Disabled Veterans Act, is a crucial step in safeguarding the rights of our veterans. Currently, there are 10,223 actions taken, but we need 9,777 more to reach the next goal! When a veteran's disability affects their ability to gain employment, Total Disability Based on Individual Unemployability (TDIU) provides vital support. However, recent proposals could limit TDIU benefits based on age. H.R. 6362 aims to protect TDIU by prohibiting considerations of a veteran's age or eligibility for other federal benefits. This ensures that all veterans, regardless of age or additional benefits, can access the support they deserve. Join us in supporting H.R. 6362 and advocating for the rights of our veterans. 🎗️ Contact your elected representatives and urge them to co-sponsor and support this critical legislation. Together, let's protect the benefits for disabled veterans and their families. #SupportVeterans #HR6362 #TakeActionNow

This document goes with the military disability claims guide. Though it does not have everything because it is always changing , this is a good starting point for an Index of disabilities that you can claim that the VA will honor if it is service connected. I would recommend going through this listing to see if there are any other disabilities you could claim that you were not aware of.

Are you aware of the DAV Commander's Action Network? Today, there are more than 18 million living veterans in the United States, representing about 6% of the country's adult population. At the same time, the number of veterans in Congress has recently decreased compared to recent years. This means that it is more important than ever for veterans to stay informed and up to date on legislation that can affect them and their families. Here are a few ways to stay informed: Subscribe to a veterans' advocacy organization. These organizations often have newsletters or websites that provide updates on legislation and other issues that affect veterans. Attend veterans' events. These events are a great way to connect with other veterans and learn about the latest issues. Contact your elected officials. Let them know that you are a veteran and that you are interested in legislation that affects veterans. By staying informed, you can make sure that your voice is heard and that you are protected by the laws that are passed. https://lnkd.in/eWcrimhR You do not have to be a Veteran to Join.

Eric Luley, I am a 60% disabled vet. I have never attempted to have my 60% rating increased. every single day my life is effected by my disability. I have been told by numerous VA Healthcare workers that I should be at 100%. I have spent the last seven years not wanting to bother with attempting a reevaluation, because I feel that others are in greater need of the appointments and effort. Please remember that the military is specifically marketed as a job/career to people who tend to believe that they owe a debt to society, or at least believe that something greater than themselves exists. The amount of money and time used by the VBA in an effort to prevent fraud is greater than any other government entity. Because of the distribution of budgets, it cannot even be tracked. While there may be dishonest advocates and veterans, I believe that the greater problem is veterans and their survivors not wanting to bother with asking, or demanding their rightful benefits. It is important to remember that the military is a part of the government, and it employs service members. The government provides all other employees with workplace protections, and requires all private sector employers to provide workplace protections. Workers Compensation laws & regulations exist to assist injured workers and their survivors in getting made whole. The VA is basically 'workers compensation' for service members. It is not charity, or a low income program. We as the citizens of the United States are the employers of the service members, and we have a moral obligation to ensure that anyone injured in our employment is taken care of, as are their survivors.

Honestly guys… This is a little tongue in cheek, but there are “veteran advocates” on this platform that believe a 100% disability should be a personal goal upon your transition. This may be an unpopular opinion but “100% disabled” should be a fairly difficult standard to attain, for obvious reasons. I worked with disabled and vulnerable veterans when I first retired, and I definitely saw some stuff that raised my eyebrows. And to the vets who are doing the right thing, served honorably, and have to deal with long term and lifetime issues, I have nothing but respect and compassion for you. The VA should absolutely take care of you. Thoughts? #veterans #advocate #disability #military

The #Florida House and Senate declined to allocate $25,000 in funding for the Healthy Widowhood Project as part of their 2024-2025 budget appropriations, a decision that has been met with considerable disappointment. In contrast, initiatives aimed at supporting solo parents and solo fathers, including those in the military, have been granted millions in appropriations. This discrepancy highlights a concerning disparity: while support is available for military and civilian #widowers (male), civilian #widows (female and largest demographic) are left without similar resources. Widows to widowers are 4 to 1 in Florida. Despite being the sole FL #advocacy group pushing for widow support initiatives, our efforts—ranging from in-person meetings to extensive email campaigns directed at legislative representatives—have repeatedly been overlooked, even in the aftermath of a pandemic that has significantly increased the number of #widows. #widowadvocate #widowsupport

Heads up, veterans! There's been some confusion about stimulus checks from the VA. While the VA doesn't offer stimulus checks, they do provide disability compensation for veterans with service-connected disabilities. Here's the breakdown: VA Disability Compensation: If you have a service-connected disability rated 10% or higher, you may be eligible for monthly compensation. Veterans with a 30% rating or higher can also receive tax-free compensation for dependents. Special Monthly Compensation: This additional benefit helps veterans with specific or combinations of disabilities. Let's spread the word! Share this info with other veterans to ensure everyone gets the support they deserve. https://buff.ly/457Pm0l #veterans #VAservices #disabilitycompensation
