As the innovation landscape evolves, we must be cautious of the constant push to commodify and monetize new ideas. While market-driven innovation has brought many technological advancements, the relentless focus on financial results can have perverse consequences for our social fabric. Too often, innovation gets kidnapped by the corporate game, restricted to the pursuit of profit rather than the betterment of society. We've internalized the notion that innovation's sole purpose is to generate market returns, ignoring the profound impact it can have on the public good. This mindset incentivizes behaviors that don't necessarily promote any kind of collective wellbeing. Instead, it can foster a culture of exploitation, extractivism, and short-term thinking - all in the name of innovation. But innovation shouldn't be the exclusive domain of the corporate elite. It's a powerful tool that belongs to all of us, with the potential to address our most pressing societal challenges. We need to reclaim innovation and reorient it towards the greater good.
