Economic competitiveness is a challenge for nuclear power, particularly in liberalized electricity markets where utilities compete to meet a given demand by supplying power at the lowest cost. We address two related questions: 1) How competitive is nuclear power? 2) What will determine how well small modular reactors will compete against large nuclear reactors?

This report is promising no doubt to continue to advance the Nuclear Renaissance and reduce our global carbon footprint by investing more in non-fossil fuel based power generation. Hoping the decision makers consider the bigger picture when taking the decision to approve this project with such a global impact for generations to come. After Vogtle Unit 3&4, we need another major project to carry the nuclear generation development torch and set the example for the next one. North America has a tall order compared to China’s push for Nuclear generation development underway. Go Nuclear!!!

Nuclear energy is having a moment. Public and private sector leaders – in the U.S. and internationally – have shown increasing interest in this clean power source in recent years. By way of example, in 2023 Poland announced plans for the development of its first nuclear power plants; plans are underway to repower a previously decommissioned nuclear power plant in Michigan with up to $1.5B in related federal, DOE support; and plans for the deployment of small modular reactors are moving forward on many fronts with encouragement of stakeholders including tech companies and data center owners. As governments make strides in nuclear energy technology, as reported by The The Wall Street Journal, it is imperative we secure a domestic pipeline of High-Assay Low-Enriched Uranium (#HALEU), the fuel needed to power these small modular reactors. Reestablishing the United States’ status as a leading provider of #NuclearEnergy will require support for the creation of a domestic fuel supply, promoting energy security and helping to usher in the country’s nuclear renaissance. Is overzealous regulation the root cause of the contemporary crisis in deployment of nuclear reactors in the USA? James Krellenstein argues that Nuclear Regulatory Commission critics are trapped in the 1980’s and that the spectre haunting today’s deployments are not primarily regulatory. Due to simplified systems and lower material costs modern NRC approved passive reactors should be cheaper than complex Gen 2 reactors. Another even paced, well researched piece on the delicate state of affairs in the global nuclear fuel cycle. Three cheers for the pioneers of new reactor technology; nobody said the going was going to be easy. As we are still identifying scalable technology, the global investment pool isn't growing much: in addition to the rising cost of capital across the board, the source of funding is also imperative. With global supply chains contracting and the allied nations looking inward, trying to rebuild dependable links between vetted suppliers and financially stable processors the reassembled Nuclear Fuel Cycle Club should probably look something like #AUKUS.
