Thinking about how to collaborate with the government and markets to drive improvement through philanthropy is essential. The emerging model involves demonstrating proof of concept through pilots, building evidence that a solution works, and then advocating for broader adoption. This means working on both policy formulation and its implementation. Given India's state capacity, providing sustained support for 5-10 years and maintaining a long-term commitment is critical. Even with sound policies, iteration and refinement are necessary as progress is made. Moreover, I began to consider that an even higher ROI could be achieved by contributing to India's rapid and sustained economic growth, ensuring it is inclusive and offers equal opportunities. If India can maintain an 8% annual growth rate over the next 25 years, aligning with the Viksit Bharat vision, it has the potential to become a developed nation by 2047. This approach, focused on supporting accelerated economic growth, offers perhaps the highest ROI in the long run. The podcast "Equity In Philanthropy | FED Dialogues" is an insightful conversation where Ashish Dhawan his vision for India's economic growth, emphasizing the critical role of skill development and labor-intensive exports. He highlights how philanthropy can effectively contribute to systemic change, focusing on high-impact areas to achieve substantial social and economic progress. Key highlights from the podcast: Economic growth fuels human development: There exists a powerful link between economic growth and improvements in education, healthcare, and poverty reduction. Expanding the economic pie ultimately benefits everyone, with this belief rooted in witnessing the positive impact of economic growth in countries like China. India's potential as a global economic leader: India has the potential to become a manufacturing powerhouse and a leading provider of skilled services to the global market. Dhawan outlines a roadmap for achieving this ambitious goal, focusing on specific sectors where India can excel. Harnessing labor-intensive exports: There is an emphasis on prioritizing labor-intensive exports to drive job creation and capture a larger share of the global market. India's competitive advantage lies in its abundant workforce and cost-effectiveness compared to other developing countries. Skilling aligned with market demand: There is a need to design skill-development programs that cater directly to the demands of the global market. This strategic approach will ensure individuals acquire in-demand skills, increasing employability and contributing directly to India's economic expansion. The emphasis on outcome-oriented, market demand-led skilling programs resonates deeply with D&A’s latest work on designing skilling and employment programs. These initiatives leverage an outcome-based financing model in partnership with leading skilling ecosystem partners. The skilling initiative will incorporate a gender-inclusive approach and consider contextual and social factors in identifying employment opportunities to improve female labor force participation in India. 🔗 Watch the full video here: https://lnkd.in/gsu3pTxK

#MandelaDay2024 Nelson Mandela Day is a global call to action that celebrates the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world and the ability to make an impact. It's a day that honors the legacy of Nelson Mandela, a man who dedicated his life to the service of humanity, promoting peace, reconciliation, and social justice. For RBI Tech, Mandela Day serves as a powerful reminder of our shared human experience and the importance of unity and compassion. By embracing Mandela's philosophy, we can foster a corporate culture that prioritizes empathy, collaboration, and community involvement. Celebrating Mandela Day within RBI Tech means committing ourselves to acts of kindness and service, reflecting on how we can contribute positively to society. It encourages us to look beyond our differences and work together towards common goals, much like Mandela did throughout his life. Our company can drive this philosophy by implementing initiatives that promote social responsibility, community engagement, and inclusivity. Whether it's through volunteer programs, partnerships with local charities, or internal policies that support diversity and equality, we can make a tangible impact. By embodying these values, RBI Tech not only honors Mandela's legacy but also strengthens its own culture, creating an environment where every employee feels valued and motivated to contribute to a larger purpose. What Does Empowerment Look Like? - A mother who once felt invisible now runs a thriving business. - A woman who found her voice and inspires others to believe in their strength. - A daughter who can look up to her mother and see a role model. Today, Shiromi earns Rs. 20,000–30,000 per month, enough to support her daughter, and her parents, and even hire another woman from her village to help sell the products. Her dream doesn’t stop there: “I hope to earn Rs. 50,000 monthly by the end of 2024 and create jobs for five women by 2030. Start small. Face the challenges. That’s where success lies.” Shiromi’s story is more than one of survival—it’s one of empowerment, resilience, and breaking generational barriers. Her story is proof that empowerment starts with opportunity and grows with determination.
