Figures released today in the latest EY UK Attractiveness Survey reveal the West Midlands attracted 127 Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) projects in 2023, its highest total of the last decade. The report also showed that the West Midlands had a 72% rise in projects compared to 2022 and is the seventh best-performing region in Europe. Neil Rami, Chief Executive of the West Midlands Growth Company commented: "These figures reinforce the West Midlands as a strategic necessity to inbound investment. Despite challenging macro-economic conditions, the region has bucked a trend of decline, witnessing UK-leading, and record-smashing growth in FDI. "This success can be attributed to the strong economic fundamentals of the region; our talentpool, innovation-led R&D and business ecosystem form an attractive proposition to investors. Critically, WMGC’s Global Growth Programme, intensive international relations and targeted marketing helped convert this interest into tangible investment – from which thousands of new jobs have been created.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gRmKuPxm #FDI #WestMidlands

Great to see positive press around Birmingham's economic performance as a leading destination for inward investment over the last 24 hours, with EY's latest FDI report ranking the West Midlands as the seventh best performing region in Europe for foreign direct investment. Outside of London, #Birmingham was the UK's most successful city in 2023 in attracting FDI, with a 139% increase on 2022 - driven primarily by the tech sector and advanced manufacturing. The city attracted twice as many projects as any other UK city outside of London during 2023 - its best performance in a decade. The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in particular gets a mention for potentially providing the global platform for Birmingham and wider West Midlands to promote and secure inward investment activity. Looking forward to seeing how Brum maintains the momentum and working with CBRE UK's public and private sector clients to deliver the necessary investment in our places and infrastructure. #CBREPlanning #economicdevelopment #urbanregeneration #infrastructure

Birmingham and Edinburgh, the locations of our two schemes, have been identified as some of the UK’s most investable destinations for overseas capital, according to EY. The West Midlands has been ranked as Europe’s seventh best performing region for foreign direct investment (FDI) in the latest EY UK Attractiveness Survey 2024, with Birmingham named the best performing city in the UK after London. In 2023 there were 67 inward investment projects, a 139% increase from last year and its highest number in a decade. This surge, driven by a 50% boost in tech investments, more than doubled the FDI of any other UK city outside London. Edinburgh ranked as the second-best performing city outside of London, securing 32 projects in total. The data highlights the growing commercial appeal of two of the UK’s leading city economies, where institutional investment in real estate is being supported by new infrastructure and investment into high growth sectors such as technology and financial services.
