We do not know how far or short the ripple of kindness will be, but an act of kindness will form a ripple nonetheless. May all be well.
Heartwarming story and illustration. As an expat here, I don't have my family close by, the bond with people from the restaurants, cafes and small shops make me feel like home. If I go, I would leave a note like this too to those who remember my orders every time.
The cleaner lady on my floor at my office is over 80 years old. I asked her once, why she still works at her age to which she replied: "What am I going to do at home, stare at the walls? Better to stay active!" I make it a point to acknowledge her every morning and thank her for cleaning the area around me. I buy her small treats now and again, and chat with her. Whether or not she goes back to an empty house daily, I hope she feels seen, even if just by 1 person.
Speak to your older generation friends and colleagues, sometimes a hi and hello could mean so much to them because someone actually notices their presence.. 😔 many just want someone to talk to.
Six years ago, as I recall, there was an uncle I used to see every morning in the train (from Putra Heights to Bangsar South). We always boarded and disembarked at the same station. He was in his late 70s, with a gentle demeanor and a warm smile for everyone. One day, as we waited on the platform, I asked him why he still commutes daily at his age. He smiled and said, "I don’t have anyone remaining in my family, so I travel just to be around people. It makes the days feel fuller." From that day on, we exchanged greetings every morning, and sometimes, I’d bring an extra drink to share with him. Those brief moments of connection became a comforting routine. I like to think that in those small exchanges, he knew he wasn’t alone on his journey. It’s a very fond memory that remains close to my heart to this day. 😊
That line, 'Thank you for knowing I exist,' really hit me and brought tears to my eyes.
I can’t believe I cried over something from LinkedIn. This just hits home.
Spend time with your parents ❤️
