Happy Wednesday!! 😀 IT'S AMERICAN REDNECK DAY!! Author | C. Knighten While folks here in the south may celebrate this day a little harder than most, this is still a day celebrated Nationwide. We can credit The Blue Collar Comedy Tour with inducting many a fan into the kingdom of Redneckdom! People who are often called rednecks do not live up to the derogatory roots of this somewhat slang term. Though, to be honest, there are some that do! ‘Redneck’ is a term applied to white American people who are perceived to be unsophisticated or crass, particularly those from rural backgrounds, farmers and those who worked in fields. Nothing could be further from the truth!! The origins of this term, 'redneck' actually stems from the Battle of Blair Mountain, in 1921. It turned out to be the nastiest uprising since the Civil War. 10,000 to 20,000 coal miners looking for the right to unionize, went to war with labor enforcers. The battle lasted a week and involved the National Guard. The coal miners wore red bandanas when they marched and were labeled 'rednecks' because of their kerchiefs! It is easy to understand how and why people might associate the word with being backwoods and ignorant, but that really isn't what it meant at all. Let's all remember where we would be without vegetables, cows and coal and much, much more! GREAT QUOTES FROM JEFF FOXWORTHY: 👩🌾 You night be a redneck if you have spent more on your pickup truck than your education! 👨🌾 If your neighbors think you are a detective because a cop always brings you home! 🧑🌾 If you ever made change in the offering plate at church...you might be a redneck! 🧑🌾 If you own a home with wheels on it and several cars without...you might be a redneck! While people will misuse this term for years to come, if we all laugh together, it doesn't matter where it started or how. What matters is that we have learned to respect and care for one another regardless of our backgrounds or where we are from! #dynamicpressurewashing #roofcleaning #softwashing #residential #commercial #siding #concrete #driveways #sidewalks #patios #decks #fences #tractortrailers #semitrucks #fleetservice #madison #huntsville #decatur #hamptoncove

Lendell Tarr's story is representative of the high degree of labor shortage in small-town America. At 65, he's willing to do the job of 3-4 workers, but he deserves to retire in peace with a clear conscience and enjoy the fruits of his labors. Instead, he's torn, knowing few applicants are applying to fill his shoes, and the pressure is great to stay on as long as he can to support his community. Succession planning is the elephant in the room in so many organizations. Get started on this important journey as soon as you are able. The next generation of workers have chosen to work differently and already have more options than previous generations, with remote work, the gig economy, social media business models, and contracting. Let your staffing partners know the plan 12-18 months ahead of time to collaborate on a strategy before it's too late. The benefit of a 3-6 month overlap for training, mentoring, and passing the baton to create a seamless transition is a priceless gift to all parties. Furthermore, it sends a message to those most loyal to your organization that you value their knowledge and specialized skill, enough so to be proactive vs. reactive. https://lnkd.in/gbVYNugm

At LGNZ, we’re all about making sure local government is accessible to everyone. That said, we know it’s easy to look at councils and go: what happens in those enigmatic rooms called chambers? Why are they called chambers? Why is everyone calling the mayor ‘Your Worship’? So many questions! And we want to answer them. So, in the spirit of demystifying some of the mysteries of councils, we’re launching an Ask Us Anything series. Got a burning question about how councils work, or what you can do about the leak on your road or whether you can get support for your idea for a new skate park, DM us – and we’ll answer them. Please note: while there is no such thing as a stupid question, there are, unfortunately, such things as offensive questions. So, while we welcome almost all questions, like every human being with a heart and a Wifi connection, we have our limits. Thank you. With that in mind – message away!

City Manager | Strategic Planner | Grant Funding Expert | Nonprofit Advocate | Passionate about Community Development and Innovation
In towns like Ashland, Maine, and Limestone, the struggle to find and retain workers is forcing many to wear multiple hats—from running town sports programs to driving ambulances. With a lack of younger labor, aging employees are pulling double or triple duty to keep essential services running. This trend is not unique to Maine; small towns across the U.S. are grappling with similar issues. As rural populations continue to age, the pressure to attract and retain younger workers is mounting. Without intervention, more towns may face service reductions, regionalization, or even closures of key departments like police and ambulance services. City and town managers in rural areas must explore creative solutions, including competitive salaries, remote work opportunities, and aggressive recruitment strategies, to ensure their communities can thrive. https://lnkd.in/gbP7RnZ2 #RuralCommunities #WorkforceDevelopment #PublicSector #SmallTownChallenges #AgingWorkforce #LocalGovernment #EconomicDevelopment #CommunityManagement #MunicipalLeadership #RuralInnovation

What is the meaning of fifty cents? In today’s world, two quarters might get you a stick of gum, a postage stamp, or one small piece of fruit. Compared to the national minimum wage of $7.25 per hour, fifty cents are equivalent to a little over four minutes of work. For a farmworker, however, fifty cents means something entirely different. Learn more about the struggles of farmworkers (and the progress towards protecting their rights!) from March 25 - 31 during National Farmworker Awareness Week here and on bamco.com.
