We are delighted to confirm the date for our joint Crucible with IBioIC on 'Embracing the #CircularEconomy in the #Watersector Join us: 📅 30 Oct 2024 📍 Technology Innovation Centre University of Strathclyde The importance of #resourcerecovery in the water industry is increasing, not only as a means for mitigating its impact on the environment, but also for stimulating circular economy opportunities. Over recent years, water companies have been focused on energy as a resource to be recovered. However, there are still numerous unexploited opportunities that can be unlocked through research and innovation activities. Circular economy approaches will play a key role in delivering net zero by 2040 across the water sector in a changing climate, and will require a multidisciplinary approach to develop and deliver opportunities at pace. ♻️ Do you work on Circular Economy approaches? 🖥️ Could your work apply circular economy principles or even be considered within a circular economy agenda? 👥 Are you interested in exploring opportunities and collaborations within the circular economy agenda? For more on our Crucible, please visit, https://lnkd.in/evaZx9-z Register to join by 15th Sept) https://lnkd.in/e6zsfH5V

🌍 Call for Papers: Circular Bioeconomy in the Global South 🌱 There is still time to submit your paper as part of this SI of the journal Sustainable Production and Consumption. Submission Deadline: November 30, 2024 This initiative aims to uncover sustainable solutions that can drive socioeconomic development while leveraging renewable biological resources. Why This Matters: The transition to a circular bioeconomy is not just a trend; it's a crucial step toward global sustainable development. By promoting sustainable production and consumption, we can tackle pressing environmental challenges and enhance local economies. This special issue will highlight strategies, policies, and success stories that exemplify the potential of the CBE. Topics of Interest: We invite contributions on a wide range of topics, including (but not limited to): Sustainable Agri-Food Practices: Innovations in farming and integration of circular principles in the agri-food sector. Waste-to-Value Initiatives: Successful projects that transform waste into valuable resources. Community Engagement: The role of local communities in promoting a circular bioeconomy. Policy Development: Analysis of policies that support CBE in the Global South. This is an opportunity to contribute to a transformative dialogue on sustainability in the Global South. Join us in shaping a future where economic prosperity and environmental stewardship go hand in hand! 🔗 For submission guidelines and more information, please check the journal's homepage: https://lnkd.in/dMgZUmWT When submitting your paper, please select Article Type “VSI: CBE and Global South”. Today we’ve had a visit from Vertical Farm Daily. It was a good opportunity to explain the benefits of our technology, growing vegetables in a fully sustainable way. Main points discussed around our solution: ✔ No Chemicals: Our process is completely free of harmful chemicals, making it safer for the environment and easier to manage. ✔ Environmentally Friendly: By focusing on minimal impact, our technology ensures that we contribute positively to the planet’s health. ✔ Energy Efficient: We prioritize energy efficiency, reducing the carbon footprint associated with CO2 capture. ✔ No Waste: Our system generates no waste, further underlining our dedication to sustainability. ✔ Zero Emissions: We strive for a zero-emission process, aligning with global climate goals. ✔ Cost-Efficient: By using off-the-shelf components, we keep costs low while delivering high efficiency. ✔ Significant yield increase: By optimising growth conditions ✔ Reuse of water: system readily available for reuse of water 📷 Introduction to the control system of the ECS technology Overall interesting discussions re how to apply the GreenCap technology (DAC and ECS) technology to an international market. #GreenCO2 #Sustainability #ClimateAction

Sustainability Consultant ⋅ Sustainability Strategy ⋅ Environment Data Analyst ⋅ Biodiversity & Climate Specialist ⋅ Life Cycle Assessment ⋅ Sustainability Data Analyst Junior
If in biology it is said that "nothing makes sense unless it is in the light of evolution" (Dobzhansky, T.), it is similar in sustainability. Nothing makes sense if it is not in the light of product life cycle analysis (LCA). Why? Before answering, when I talk about sustainability, I rely on the UN definition (1987) in which sustainability is understood as "meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs". Therefore, when we talk about carrying out any sustainability measure, it must be designed from an LCA approach. That is, based on the data obtained in the analysis to know if it is really a measure with IMPACT REDUCTION EFFECT or if it is a greenwashing measure. Ask yourself these questions: - Have I taken into account scope 3 (impacts that do not depend on me)? - Have I taken into account raw material extraction? - Recycling? Why do I say LCA and not the carbon footprint of the product? and why not the water footprint? waste perhaps? Because the LCA... - ...is a COMPLETE ANALYSIS at the level of IMPACTS: it integrates all the impacts mentioned above: CO2, water footprint, waste. We are even working to integrate impacts at the biodiversity level... - ..it is a complete analysis at ALL STAGES of the product from raw material extraction to product recycling. - ...methodology is based on science and is therefore standardized - ...uses quality data (database). So, if you want to integrate a meaningful measure of sustainability, analyze it from an LCA approach, how? You will see in another post #LifeCycleAssessment #Sustainability #Sustain #carbonfootprint #waterrisk #sustainabilitystrategy
