Bell Labs Camera-as-a-Service technology created new experiences at U23 Event in Espoo During the U23 European Track and Field Championships, Bell Labs Solutions Research had the opportunity to collaborate with the event organizers to provide a unique, all-encompassing experience for all attendees. We tested our Camera-as-a-Service proof of concept solution in a real-world environment where spectators, athletes, coaches and organizers could explore behind the scenes opportunities and view athletes in a private warm-up area, replay key moments from the live competition and even access real-time information about parking availability and food truck queues. Our software solution transforms standard cameras into intelligent cameras that run AI applications and perform automated machine learning operations on the low-cost edge connected devices. This reduces the need to implement expensive network infrastructure and eliminates the need to send and process data in the cloud. The analytics are done locally, on the edge ensuring no raw data leaves the device, preserving end-user data security and privacy. This technology not only revolutionizes athletic experiences, but it can also be deployed in enterprise and industrial environments to capture real-world information, derive intelligent insights, support optimal decision making and ultimately improve productivity, safety and sustainability.
