Back in the day, in a previous life, I worked at what was formerly known as the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark now Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark. It was my initiation into environmental tourism, promoting environmentally sustainable practices in tourism and promoting the protection and conservation of the environment. 20 years on and it seems the sustainable tourism/travel message is only really starting to take hold. A lifetime ago, initiatives like the Green Box, were fore runners in sustainable tourism but I’m not sure the Green Box team were ever truly given credit for their work. These Thought leaders, such as Mary Mulvey (who if you don’t know Mary and want your business or organisation to get a proper grip on sustainable practices, then I cannot recommend her highly enough) were pushing water up hill to bring the tourism industry into the sustainability fold. Boy did the rest of us get it wrong! We should have been listening and we should have been taking responsibility much much sooner than now. That environmental sustainability conversation is now on the tip of everyone’s tongue. At think6, we are doing what we can to make our contribution to sustainability, zoom, paperless, rather than drive, promoting local businesses and working with local communities. The latter is all about helping to make a contribution to a circular economy, a local economy and ecomony that can be sustained through tourism. In essence are talking about regenerative tourism, that buzz phrase that everyone seems to interested in. Have a look at our recent blog, and why not have a go at answering the 6 questions, if you want to make a conscious effort to build a sustainable tourism offering (or any business, organisation or group in general). #regenerativetourism #sustainabletourism #tourismmarketing #tourismireland #tourismnorthernireland

This attracts environmentally conscious tourists and strengthens the local community. Pros: -Reduced environmental impact -Appeals to a growing market of eco-conscious travelers -Improves operational efficiency and reduces costs Cons: -Initial investment in sustainable practices may be higher -Reaching and educating potential eco-tourists requires targeted marketing By embracing eco-friendly practices, venues can differentiate themselves, attract new customers, and contribute to a healthier planet. It focuses on adapting tourism infrastructure, services, and facilities to accommodate diverse visitor requirements, thereby promoting inclusivity and equal enjoyment of tourism experiences. Action 6: Strategies on Protection of Local Retail as an Asset for Tourism 🏙 ➡ Aiming to address the issue of 'monoculturalisation' in city centers caused by tourism, which negatively impacts local economies and retail diversity. 🌍 Will sustainable tourism become more than a niche segment? 🌿 Having worked with it since 2017, here are my reasons for why it'll take time to go mainstream: 🕰️ Shifting mindsets and behaviours towards sustainable practices requires education, awareness, and a collective effort. 🌄 Developing sustainable tourism infrastructure, such as eco-friendly accommodations and transportation options, requires significant investment and often come with long lead times. 💰 While many businesses are embracing sustainability, others prioritise short-term profits over long-term environmental impact. Widespread adoption will require both legislation and customer demand. 🌐 Achieving sustainable tourism requires collaboration on a global scale. Coordinating policies, regulations, and certifications among different countries and regions is essential for meaningful progress. What do you think? Will #SustainableTourism ever become the default option? #ResponsibleTravel #EarthDay #Travel #deeptravel🌱 📸 Venice in the off-season

Sustainable Tourism: A Pathway to Resilient Communities and Thriving Ecosystems In today's interconnected world, the tourism industry plays a pivotal role in global economies, cultural exchanges, and environmental conservation. As leaders in the sphere of Integrated Social Responsibility (ISR), we have the unique opportunity—and responsibility—to steer the course towards sustainable tourism. This endeavor not only preserves our planet's natural and cultural treasures but also fosters resilient communities and thriving ecosystems. Key Strategies for ISR Leadership in Sustainable Tourism Sustainable tourism hinges on community engagement and empowerment, environmental stewardship, and cultural preservation. Engaging local communities in tourism planning ensures their voices are heard and their interests are protected, fostering resilient communities and better outcomes. Investing in local businesses and workforce development creates jobs, retains talent, and strengthens local economies. Equally important is cultural preservation, achieved by promoting authentic cultural experiences that benefit local artisans and practitioners, and by educating tourists on cultural sensitivity and respect. By embracing these interconnected principles, tourism can become a force for positive change, empowering communities, protecting the environment, and preserving cultural heritage. The Way Forward Sustainable tourism is not just a trend; it is a necessity for the future of our planet and our communities. As ISR leaders, we must champion these practices, set examples within our organizations, and collaborate with stakeholders across sectors. By doing so, we can ensure that tourism continues to enrich our world—economically, culturally, and environmentally—without compromising the ability of future generations to enjoy its benefits. Together, let's lead the way in making sustainable tourism the standard, not the exception. The journey towards a sustainable future is a shared one, and every step we take brings us closer to a world where tourism benefits all. #ISRLeadership #IndividualSocialResponsibility #GlobalChange #Unity #Innovation #Compassion #BeTheChange #ISRLeadership #IndividualSocialResponsibility #SustainableLeadership #SocialImpact #EthicalLeadership #SocialResponsibility #CommunityLeadership #GlobalCitizenship #SustainabilityMatters #LeadingWithPurpose #SocialChange #Empowerment #SocialGood #PurposeDriven #ResponsibleLiving #LeadershipForGood #ImpactfulLeadership #SustainableFuture #LeadByExample #CommunityImpact #PositiveChange #SocialConsciousness #CorporateSocialResponsibility #MakingADifference #SustainabilityInAction #TransformativeLeadership #GivingBack #LeadWithIntegrity #Changemakers #BetterTogether
