#Fridaythought – The importance of direction and the principles that underpin it. Over the past few weeks, I have been working on defining the high-level #principles and supporting #pillars that I believe are required to underpin my function. The need for such being to provide a reference and structure, so that my teams can cement understanding of our collective direction and purpose and how we continue to support our business. I am of the belief that having such #fundamental and visible statements, is paramount to the #success of any function who provide a service. Without such, it is often all too easy to forget what we are all working towards or for, and what part we ultimately play in the bigger picture. They also serve as an important reminder of what we as a function exist for, and how we do it. They define our #purpose. In my mind, such principles serve as a kind of #value statement for a function, empowering those within our teams to do their best in line with this core and visible mantra. To some, these might seem like just words with no meaning. If we were to define such principles as stickers on the wall, that have no substance and alignment to our #deliverables or core organisational requirements, I would be inclined to agree. However, these come to life when the pillars that underpin the principles are in alignment with work on your backlog, and work that supports all your stakeholders. Thus, enabling us to be transparent in what we do, ensuring we always deliver an excellent #service. Whilst allowing us to keep one eye always on “the what” and “the why” to ensure alignment. My overarching Principles being: We see what is happening. We are resilient. We are secure. We are managing our universe. We know where we are and where we are going. We are a team. Our people are core to everything we do. Without #direction and clarity of purpose, teams can feel like they are “stacking shelves” and not providing overall value. This inevitably leads to demotivation and everything that comes along with such. Ensuring that your teams understand their remit, purpose and the intrinsic value they bring is one of the most important things you can do as a leader (in my opinion). This drives engagement, increases #motivation which ultimately increases #innovation and #productivity. Small words and statements can have huge #value when targeted and landed correctly to the right audience. Giving your teams this #clarity of purpose with such words should be considered as a baseline for any leader. What are your thoughts on this, do you feel there is value in having such defined? Hi Everyone, This is the learning from Week 2 of the Fellowship Management Consulting Program by Growjunction Topic: Important Concepts in Management Consulting. My learnings from this module: We had a pretty clear discussion about the tools and frameworks which are as follows 1) Benchmarking, the concept of comparing company's performance with the competitors, types are Performance, Practice, Internal, External, and elaborated these types as well. Apart from that we discussed the steps for executing steps as well. 2)We elaborated on SWOT analysis, a retro toll which is reliable and functional and gives an apparent and simple picture for decision-makers. 3)Scenario and Sensitivity analysis gave us a grasp of how financial analysis and decisions are made and how to handle the risk that comes with these decisions. We also discussed all the limitations of these 2 as well. 4) A Balanced Scorecard is the overall analysis and a way to measure an organization's performance in the market. It again has four pillars that are Finance, Customers, Internal, and Innovation. 5) Resource Allocation is one of the important factors and how BCG Matrix helps to take this decision with Star, Cash Cow, Dog, and a ? (Question Mark), ultimately it puts distinctive ideas in front of Leadership. 6) A key factor in the Longevity of Business is NPS(Net Promotors Score), and how it helps in customer retentions and how we can improve the overall customer experience.
