News Update -- As some of you may know, my great-great uncle Jesse Ball Moore was improperly executed by the US Army in 1917 in connection with the Houston Riot of 1917. In November 2023, after 106 years of injustice by the US government (which won't bring anyone back to life as my uncle was murdered at the young age of 27 years old), the US Military overturned the convictions of 110 Buffalo Soldiers that were in the 24th Infantry Regiment. Last November, the military gave all falsely-tried and accused soldiers honorable discharges from the Army to help address how their own government denied them due process without the possibility of appeal. They were represented by one person who wasn't even a lawyer in a gross miscarriage of justice. The largest court martial in US history resulted in overhauling the military court process -- requiring the implementation of a process of appeal and military leaders in Washington to sign off on an execution before a sentence is carried out. But again, too late for uncle Jesse who was the 7th person executed the next day after the death sentence was issued. Here's an update - I'm pleased to share that the Army replaced the headstones of soldiers like my great-great uncle Jesse Ball Moore. This happened last week in a ceremony at the gravesite where Uncle Jesse is buried. Here's a news story with more background and context. April 23 marks the birthday of the United States Army Reserve. Following World War I, under the National Defense Act of 1920, Congress reorganized the United States land forces by authorizing a Regular Army, a National Guard, and an Organized Reserve (Officer Reserve Corps and Enlisted Reserve Corps) of thirty-five divisions, which later became the #ArmyReserve.
