Organizations are told data is key to their success? Its true. But does your staffing model reflect what you require as an organization? We often work with clients who enter gifts into the CRM, pull reports for finance, manage stewardship, manage the database, and so on. Are we asking too much from one person? Or your team? As nonprofit leadership, we need to sit down and ask how much you are asking of your "database manager"? The picture below is the tip of the iceberg for the tasks that your operations staff is responsible for. As an industry, if we want our data to grow and improve, we need to invest in the people who manage our data. This means professional development and training. The job descriptions for "database managers/coordinators" could almost be split into 2 or 3 jobs. Therefore, only the "must-do" tasks are accomplished, and organizations do not get ahead. If data is the key to our success….how are we investing in the people who are central to this success. We would love to add to this graphic if you are involved in the operation side of a non profit and do not see one of your roles listed please leave a comment. We want to make this graphic grow and truly be telling of the great work you do. #nonprofits #advancement. #philanthropy #independentschools #university #colleges

Empathetic Explorer | Collaboration Champion | Leader Who Listens (and Learns) | Expert at Asking Questions | Living My Best Life on LinkedIn
It feels like EVERYONE in the world is currently hiring for a Director of Development. So, why shouldn't we throw our hat in the mix too? 🤣 But seriously, here are some reasons why you should consider applying or sharing our Director of Advancement job post in your networks: - This job encompasses leadership around BOTH development and communications. In fact, we are encouraging people with more strength in communications to apply--something that doesn't happen often with this type of role. - This is a leadership position focused on...leadership! Most development and communications deliverables are handled by the Advancement Department with the idea being that the Director of Advancement is focused on supporting and uplifting that department. - Our benefits are kind of awesome... In addition to the leave included in the job post, I have closed for a week in November and July without asking staff to use their time. We all come back feeling refreshed and WITHOUT a full inbox to dig through. - We are an org that HIGHLY values boundaries around work. When we are off, we are off. We don't add extra work to your plate without consent and compensation. For this, we utilize spot bonuses to compensate staff when they are asked to do additional work. - This pulled from our strategic plan isn't just fluffy language. It is something we actively work towards in our work: Maryland Humanities’ unique strength lies in the competency and creativity of our staff. The Maryland Humanities staff bring passion, creativity, and innovation to the development of our work. Organizationally, we will continue to evolve staff capabilities and competencies. The staff of Maryland Humanities leverages the insights and leadership of our supportive and capable board of directors to strengthen our organization’s capacity. We know that we're trying to hire for a job that SO many are hiring for in our area. However, I truly believe that the organizational culture we are collaboratively building and the benefits we offer sets us apart. Take a look at our job post and let me know if you agree! :)

The Revolving Door of Fundraising... Tell me if you’ve heard this story before (or in many cases lived it): I hired a Development Officer (let’s call them an Associate/Manager/Director), but they couldn’t fulfill all the duties that were asked of them, our fundraising outcomes didn’t change significantly, despite all the coaching and recommendations from our management team and Board improvement didn’t happen, and the Development Associate ultimately quit or was let go. If you haven’t experienced this you’re lucky because the average Development Officer keeps their position for about 16 months before changing jobs. Keep reading here: https://lnkd.in/gTz2VdBc I know I don't have the solution, but I'm are there solutions? How do we fix this problem? I've got a few ideas but I want to hear yours as well.
