We all know maths matters. This report shares evidence-based good practice in teaching Maths in Years 1-3, gathered from New Zealand schools.
Quality maths teaching in Years 1-3 helps learners develop the key foundational skills to best set them up for the rest of school and later in life. Yet one quarter of new primary teachers told us they don’t always feel fully confident in their ability to teach maths. To support primary teaching in Years 1-3 maths, ERO has developed a new report and good practice guide based on examples of amazing teaching we saw in New Zealand, backed by effective and proven evidence. This report was developed for teachers, with teachers, for them to pick up and apply easily into the classroom. For our full report check out our new evidence and insights website!

Things we think are true about teaching: 🧦 Teachers work their socks off 😊 If you work in education, you want children to do well, be happy and be confident ☕ Break is SO much better when someone has already put the kettle on ✍🏻 If teachers go on a one-off course, they often have a nice day out and even a tasty lunch, but don't actually make long-term improvements to their teaching Sorry about the last one 😔 But we do think we can help. CPD with your local Maths Hub is evidence-based, involves collaboration with other local schools and teachers, and is designed to equip you to make changes to your maths teaching that you and your school can sustain. Download this year's catalogue to discover over 30 opportunities for the best free maths CPD around! https://lnkd.in/e4HKKizH Tag a teacher or a school who you know would love to take part in high-quality maths CPD 👩🏫 And tell us in the comments what else you know to be true about teaching! #TruthAboutTeaching #RealTeaching #MathsTeaching #LoveMaths #MathsCPD #FreeCPD #MathsHubs #LocalCollaboration #WhatsNew #ThePowerOfMaths

Professional Remote Tutor of Maths and English and Specialist Educational Advisor. Qualified tutor: Maths, English, 11 Plus , GCSE, KS1, 2 and 3📗🌏
Check out my informative blog on Maths GCSE: GCSE students can expect to use the Mathematical knowledge that they have acquired during their time at secondary school and apply it to exam questions. GCSE is often associated with Year 11 students but the reality is that preparation has begun years before, leading all the way from Year 7. The content in GCSE Maths papers ranges from basic arithmetic to geometry and algebra. Students will expect to find higher scoring questions further on in the paper which are awarded for understanding and answering questions on more challenging mathematical concepts. Students will choose between sitting a foundation or higher paper depending on which grade they are aiming for. An excellent way to practice is using past papers where you will notice similar patterns in the question types and format. Tailored practice can be useful in focussing on areas of development. Top performing students will prepare using a range of tailored practice and past papers. Exam technique is equally important as allocating time effectively and understanding the mark scheme can make all the difference. It is important for students to remain calm, be confident in their ability and focus their energy on the exam. GCSE students, you've got this! 💪👌 For more information about GCSE Maths please feel free to get in touch. https://lnkd.in/d-RDXUZy

As you may know, an announcement from the Ministry of Education New Zealand on the tiered support available for students needing additional help with mathematics is on the horizon. For me, it is timely to reflect on the great success we have seen of the SPRING into Maths programme—a structured intervention, delivering effective, engaging, and confidence-building mathematics learning. As recommended by the Education Review Office in their ‘Making it Count’ report (February, 2024), this programme continues to positively impact schools across Aotearoa New Zealand, who are facing the issue of the many students who are behind where they should be with their mathematical knowledge. SPRING enables schools to train and utilise their teacher aides to deliver this learning to small groups of students over a short timeframe, addressing the knowledge gaps in their key number concepts. We know first-hand that SPRING is making a difference, thanks to the great endorsements we have received from schools. This approach really is delivering successful outcomes for students. springintomaths.com "The mini snapshot assessments were quick and easy to carry out and gave us a clear picture of who would benefit from the programme. All the resources and videos on the website made it so easy to plan for the 4 sessions each week. We have now had 6 groups complete the programme and classroom kaiako have said they have noticed changes in the akonga who took part. They are more confident in themselves and their abilities and are more active in classroom maths sessions." —Jo Verran, Deputy Principal, Plimmerton School
