‘Ask PBot’ : Your Study Companion! We released ‘Ask PBot’ to all Pandai students yesterday. Currently in Beta, we're actively learning and enhancing its capabilities. Since last year, this feature has been available to a select group of students, and we've now expanded access to everyone. Ask PBot is designed to be a study buddy for all students, powered by AI, offering companionship throughout their learning journey. Whether the chats are academic or not, PBot is ready 24/7. PBot has been trained across all MOE school curricula, enabling it to handle questions about school subjects easily. Differing from ChatGPT, PBot interacts like a compassionate tutor, engaging students deeply to ensure comprehensive understanding rather than merely providing answers. During this school holiday, we're granting free access to PBot for everyone. We want to gather and analyse interactions between students and PBot to refine its responses further. Our dream is to equip every student with a personal tutor, in line with Benjamin Bloom's renowned study on “Bloom's 2 sigma problem,” which highlighted the superior performance of students tutored one-on-one over those in traditional classroom settings. We see this as a scalable solution to achieving that vision. Since its launch, we've observed several recurring themes in student interactions with PBot. A frequent area of inquiry involves explanations of academic terms, concepts, or meanings. PBot excels in this regard, having thoroughly 'read' all school textbooks and tailoring explanations to the student's age, ensuring comprehension by posing targeted follow-up questions. Older students, particularly those aged 12 and above, often seek practice questions from PBot. Thanks to its training on Pandai's extensive question bank, PBot can generate an unlimited array of questions mirroring actual exam formats and provide detailed explanations on tackling these questions. Interestingly, over 35% of interactions with PBot revolve around non-academic questions. Students view PBot as a friend, confidant, and counsellor, discussing personal issues and daily experiences. This aspect of PBot is crucial as it offers a safe space for students to discuss topics they might hesitate to bring up elsewhere. Although Ask PBot is just beginning its journey, we're excited about its potential to revolutionise student education. Looking ahead, we envision integrating PBot into all of Pandai's academic offerings, facilitating a personalised tutoring experience akin to the vision Benjamin Bloom proposed in 1984.
