#FundingNews - Grants of up to £5,000 Available for Projects that Help the Homeless Small Homeless charities can apply for grants of up to £5,000 for projects that aim to help homeless people rebuild their lives. To be eligible to apply, applicants must be a registered charity and have an annual turnover of under £500,000, with ‘unrestricted reserves’ of under six months. Typically, organisations awarded funding operate residential or training facilities to assist homeless people.

New research released by charity the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) United Kingdom has revealed the lasting impact of the cost-of-living crisis on the charity sector. 53% of those surveyed said that financial pressures are making it ‘unaffordable’ for them to donate to charities. Donations by people in the Midlands were found to be most affected by the rising costs of living, with a higher average of individuals being unable to donate due to increased costs. The research also suggests that young people have been largely impacted, with over half of 18–24-year-olds saying that they are finding it difficult to make donations. Despite the struggle to donate, many of those surveyed showed a high level of trust in charities and believe that they deliver value for money. This is really sad, not new news I know, but sadly all confirmed by the inquiry. I'm sure the family had the best intentions and likely thought they weren't doing anything wrong, but when you're using funds donated to a cause there is a huge level of transparency needed. This is why running a charity is harder than people think! This is why charity managers get paid and are not volunteers. This is why charities spend years building trust from donors, working hard to not only support the cause it's set to achieve, but to constantly tell people about that and show people how their funds are used. It's just like running a business only harder. People within a charity are experts at it and should be recognised as so, it's not a role anyone can do nor should do. Hopefully a few lessons are learned, but also a deeper understanding of the complications of charity management. https://lnkd.in/e5QR3HkG

Coupled with the rise in the National Living Wage, this is forcing extreme financial pressure on already stretched #homelessness services - and could lead to increased caseloads for staff and smaller charities closing altogether. This is unacceptable, so we're working with other organisations to seek an NI increase exemption for charities. #NIRise #NationalInsurance #Tax #Homelessness #Charity

Almost 136,000 16–24-year-olds were homeless or at risk of homelessness in the UK in 2022-23. This week everyone at Andrews is involved in various fundraising activities to raise £5,000 for [establish], a project that provides high quality, safe and affordable housing to young people vulnerable to homelessness (often care leavers), helping them grow into fully independent adults. Andrews Charitable Trust partner with local youth support organisations who provide ongoing weekly support to the residents. We find suitable properties that Andrews Charitable Trust purchase to become [establish] homes, and our teams provide housing management services and liaise regularly with the [establish] tenants. The money raised this week will fund deposits for [establish] tenants when they move on to the private rental sector. We’re proud to be charity owned and we’re incredibly proud of the amazing work of [establish]. #propertyandpurpose

📢 Funding Friday opportunity 📢 Great news for small charities in East Yorkshire, Hull, North Yorkshire or York Two Ridings Community Foundation support small voluntary and community groups, small charities, and other types of not-for-profit organisations (e.g. CIC’s and CBS’s). You should have a turnover under £150,000. You can apply for core costs or to better meet the needs of your beneficiaries. You can apply for between £200 and £2500 for direct project costs, pilot projects or development needs of your organisation. Priority will be given to organisations that support those that are most disadvantaged. This could be because you are based in an area of disadvantage or because you work with a community disadvantaged for some other reason.  They will give priority to work that addresses needs identified by local people.
