The VCFSE sector is on life support. Over 5,000 charities have been removed from the Charity Commission in the last 12 months, and those that survive are in a constant battle for sustainable funding. Two great examples; Comic Relief 10yr average: £62m Comic Relief 2024: £37m Children in Need 10 yr average: £55m Children in Need 2023: £34m Neither of these take into account inflation or population growth and other factors leading to increased demand. It is absolutely vital that government acknowledges the role that VCFSE groups play in society and acts to support them, as the alternative is simply pushing the ‘problem’ down the road with increased adult social care, pressure on NHS services, lower education attainment and increased inequalities. #vcfse #charity #rednoseday #childreninneed #finance #fundraising #politics

New Pro Bono Economics report for the Children's Charities Coalition shows children's social care services have reached tipping point. The analysis found that early intervention spending on children’s social care has dropped by almost half since 2010/11. For the first time, more is being spent on residential care placements than the entire early intervention budget. Years of decline in spending on early intervention services such as children’s centres and family hubs has left families without crucial early help. This means that too often, families are in crisis and growing numbers of children are entering care. As supporters of #ChildrenAtTheTable, we’re calling for more funding and investment to turn the tide: https://bbc.in/3Ze2TSZ

Today we celebrate 150 years of “Glasgow Care Foundation”, as the organisation has been known since 2012. In 1874 a group of businessmen formed “The Association for Organising Charitable Relief and Repressing Mendicity” - I had to look up mendicity - it means begging. The Victorians didn’t feel the need for brevity in titles, but this has fortunately shortened over the years - it later became the “Glasgow Charity Organisation Society”, and then in 1912, “The City of Glasgow Society of Social Service”. We were formed before the Welfare State and the National Health Service. So, there should be no need for an organisation such as ours to exist anymore. Unfortunately the necessity is still present. Over the decades we have been left legacies in wills or taken over the running of various trusts who no longer were able to distribute help themselves. In 1939 we reduced our 12 district offices to 6. Now with technological change, we do most of our work from home. The money for our grants still mostly comes from historical investments, although raising monies through legacies, trusts, fundraising and donations has become increasingly important. While our roots are steeped in the Victorian era, the work we do is up to date. Families in dire need in Glasgow - they must have lived here for at least five years – we supply items such as a cooker so that their children are not going to school hungry. A simple washing machine means the children can have clean clothes to go to school. Without clean clothes, children will often stay off school for fear of being made fun of, and thus the cycle of deprivation continues. Flooring can be provided to allow a baby to crawl safely. We also provide hardship grants for local schools and support school trips and holidays. Last year we supported over 30 local small organisations and charities who would benefit from a grant. The Foundation has a small, dedicated staff and a board consisting of volunteer trustees. Two years ago, the board and staff decided that our dedicated aim was to help 10,000 people in 10 years – we are well on our way to surpass this. Rebuilding Together Dutchess County continues to accept donations for the work we do… We focus on critical home repairs and accessibility modifications for neighbors in Dutchess and Ulster Counties. Please join us in supporting our cause as a central part of your mission this year. Those neighbors we have assisted reported feeling a restored sense of pride in their homes again. Prior to our support 86% of those neighbors reported having had trouble entering and exiting their homes - this is no longer a concern. In addition, nearly 70% planned to pass on their property to a family member, friend, or an important cause they wanted to support. The average annual household income of those whom we serve is just $24,916. Often this limited income must cover the needs of multiple individuals, including necessities like food and healthcare, aside from the essential home repairs, and safety needs. Your support enables us to start the new year with strength, steadiness, and resilience. Become the catalyst for positive change in our community by contributing here: https://lnkd.in/e4E43XC8 #Donate #RTDutchess #RebuildingTogetherDutchess #RebuildingTogether #Community #CommunitySupport #NeighborsHelpingNeighbors #Charity #Support #HudsonValley #HudsonValleyCharity #GreatCauses #ImportantCauses #CriticalHomeRepairs #UlsterCounty #DutchessCounty #AccessabilityModifications #Accessability

Our newest blog is looking at the possible changes that might impact charities and non-profits. There are many areas of government policy and changes that could have an impact, such as funding and support, policy changes, extra focus on sectors that charities support (homelessness, education, mental health, poverty, environment or welfare for example). Check out the full blog and then watch this space for further updates. https://lnkd.in/eyXpiQ5z #thecharityspark #labourgovernment #charity #nonprofit #newgovernment #charitychanges

Home Instead West Norfolk takes to the skies for Home Instead Charities!🪂 Our West Norfolk team here at Home Instead is soaring to new heights – literally! They're gearing up for a charity skydive to raise funds to combat loneliness amongst older adults in our communities. Did you know that loneliness can have a significant impact on health and well-being? At Home Instead, we envision a world where older adults can continue to play an active and inclusive role in society. Through thoughtful social activities and companionship, we aim to empower them to live happy, healthy, and connected lives. That's why we're taking the plunge (safely, of course!) to raise vital funds for Home Instead charities. All donations will go towards initiatives that bring joy, connection, and emotional well-being to older adults across the UK, helping to prevent loneliness and isolation. We'd be incredibly grateful for your support! Every donation, big or small, will make a real difference in the lives of older adults. NPC (New Philanthropy Capital) has released the Partners for Change report, which was funded by Charities Aid Foundation (CAF). It's an insightful strategy proposal for the next government to consider as it's packed out with information about what the government could do to move philanthropy in the UK forward. There are: 🎯 Eight recommendations for putting the partnership between government and charities on a strong footing 🎯 Nine recommendations in priority policy areas where civil society and government can work together to make change 🎯 Nine recommendations about how charities and funders can work together. Includes topics about in-house giving strategies, how impact and data can be used, ways the inequalities that society is addressing could be addressed, how giving can be used to respond to the climate crisis, how giving can guide the government's response to criminal justice, and how children and young people should have a seat at the table. Let's continue to work together to make change happen. #makingchange #philanthropy #givingstrategies https://lnkd.in/ewu7yTHS

Almost 136,000 16–24-year-olds were homeless or at risk of homelessness in the UK in 2022-23. This week everyone at Andrews is involved in various fundraising activities to raise £5,000 for [establish], a project that provides high quality, safe and affordable housing to young people vulnerable to homelessness (often care leavers), helping them grow into fully independent adults. Andrews Charitable Trust partner with local youth support organisations who provide ongoing weekly support to the residents. We find suitable properties that Andrews Charitable Trust purchase to become [establish] homes, and our teams provide housing management services and liaise regularly with the [establish] tenants. The money raised this week will fund deposits for [establish] tenants when they move on to the private rental sector. We’re proud to be charity owned and we’re incredibly proud of the amazing work of [establish]. #propertyandpurpose
