OQ's Role in Supplying Fuel Derivatives In today’s global energy landscape, the challenge of meeting rising demands requires a combination of reliable supply and continuous innovation. OQ is at the forefront of addressing this challenge, with operations that span the entire energy value chain. Central to this effort are OQ’s downstream assets and operations, which play a pivotal role in producing and supplying the fuel derivatives that power industries and communities. This article explores the strategic contributions OQ is making to shape the future of energy through these critical resources. Over the past decade, OQ’s downstream portfolio has undergone significant expansion, driven by strategic diversification. This growth has been catalysed by the successful execution of large-scale projects such as the Duqm Refinery (OQ8), the OQ Salalah Cluster, and the Sohar Refinery Improvement Project (SRIP). Together, these assets have bolstered OQ’s strong presence in key markets, while consistently meeting the local demand for high-quality fuel derivatives, including gas oil, **petrol**, kerosene, jet fuel, and liquefied petroleum gas. In 2023, OQ’s production metrics reflected its unwavering commitment to meeting these demands. The company produced over 15.7 million barrels of MOGAS-91, 11.04 million barrels of MOGAS-95, 32.43 million barrels of oil gas, 9.87 million barrels of aviation fuel, and 7.86 million barrels of LPG. However, OQ’s responsibilities extend well beyond production and refining; the company is also focused on ensuring the continuous availability of fuel through its extensive storage infrastructure. Committed to delivering petroleum derivatives across Oman, OQ operates a strategically positioned network of stations throughout the governorates. With storage capacities of 160,000 cubic metres at the Jifnain station in Muscat, 37,000 cubic metres at the Raysut station in Dhofar, and 19,700 cubic metres at the Sohar station in North Al Batinah, OQ ensures a reliable fuel supply to meet the nation’s energy needs. Looking to the future, OQ’s aspirations extend even further. The group has formed the OSCAR (Oman Sustainable Cars and Aviation Refuelling consortium in collaboration with international partners, aiming to explore Oman’s potential for producing e-**petrol** and e-SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuels), paving the way for Oman to become a leader in the production of next-generation fuels. In summary, OQ has established itself as a critical force in Oman’s energy sector, consistently meeting the nation’s fuel needs through strategic growth and efficient operations. With a robust portfolio of downstream assets and ongoing initiatives like the OSCAR consortium, OQ is not only addressing current demands but also positioning itself to explore future opportunities. As OQ continues to evolve, its focus remains on contributing to energy security and supporting Oman’s long-term growth in the global energy market.
