Breaking the Cycle of Gun Violence in America
I've had enough. We've all had enough. How many more lives need to be shattered before we say "no more" to the gun violence epidemic plaguing our nation?
I'm a victim, a survivor, and a thriver, and I'm furious. The scars I carry are invisible, but they run deep.
Picture this: an abusive ex, a sawed-off shotgun hidden under the kitchen sink. The constant fear, the threats, the knowledge that one wrong move could end it all. That was my reality.
But my fear of guns doesn't start there. It begins before I was even born, with my father's alleged suicide with a gun, when my mother was eight months pregnant with me.
His life snuffed out, my family forever changed, all because a gun was too easily accessible in a moment of crisis.
You'd think that would be enough right? Wrong. Just last month, three teenagers were shot right in front of my house. Two of them died. Children, with their whole lives ahead of them, gone in an instant. Their families left to pick up the pieces, just like mine was.
Every day, parents across America face the heart-wrenching fear of sending their kids to school, not knowing if they'll come home. This isn't freedom. This isn't the America we were promised.
So why hasn't anything changed? Two words: gun lobby. These powerful groups line the pockets of politicians, ensuring that common-sense gun laws never see the light of day. They prioritize profits over people, and our communities pay the price.
It's time for action. It's time for change. We need stricter background checks, longer waiting periods, and a ban on assault weapons. We need politicians who will stand up to the gun lobby and fight for our safety.
As founder of #M4VV (Media for Victims of Violence), I know firsthand the devastating impact of gun violence on individuals and communities. We're more than just #survivors – we're fighters, advocates, and change makers. We're turning our pain into purpose, our anger into action.
To those in power, hear this: We're watching. We're voting. And we won't rest until our streets, schools, and homes are safe from the scourge of #gun #violence.
To my fellow survivors and concerned citizens: Join us. Speak out. Together, we can create the change we desperately need.
This is more than just a political issue – it's a matter of life and death. And I, for one, choose life. I choose safety. I choose change.
Enough is enough. The time for gun reform is now.
Every day, 327 people are shot in the United States.
ON AVERAGE, 117 OF THEM WILL DIE.
