Our CEO and co-founder Ashwin Cheriyan was born into a family of doctors, and his earliest memories involve sitting around the dinner table, listening to his parents share stories of their patients who faced chronic illnesses primarily related to diet and exercise. His parents' emphasis on the need for dietary behavior change to reduce the risk of chronic illnesses sparked a lifelong curiosity to explore the connection between food and long-term health outcomes. He started Thistle with Shiri Avnery to challenge the belief that you have to choose between taste and nutrition, convenience and quality, and fresh and prepared – by filling your plate with the highest quality, nutrient-rich, plant-rich ingredients to support healthy weight, improve gut health, and help prevent diet-related chronic diseases. June marks Men’s Health Month, dedicated to raising awareness about preventable health issues and advocating for early detection and treatment of diseases like cancer, heart disease, and depression. In recognition, Ash is sharing his top tips for staying in tip top shape – from nutrition, to exercise, and lifestyle habits: https://lnkd.in/ggAPfVEt #MensHealthMonth

CLIENT SUCCESS STORY: A 50 year old gentleman came to see me because he had a heart attack and wanted to prevent a second one. He was on a statin for 10 years prior to his heart attack, he was active and he thought he ate “pretty clean” - he thought he was doing everything he could to prevent a heart attack. ⚠️ Eating clean does not necessarily mean heart healthy. In our initial evaluation, it was apparent that he had several nutrient deficiencies, an unbalanced diet, and suspected underlying inflammation. We worked closer together in my VIP intensive program (1 on 1 plus group coaching) so he can improve his cardio-metabolic risk profile, understand the why, and the how to implement a nutrient sufficient, heart healthy diet. ⭐️ We focused on what he needed to ADD to his diet to stabilize plaque, prevent further progression, and address inflammation, vascular health and endothelial dysfunction. In 4 months, his blood pressure went from an average of 135/85mmHg to 112/72mmHg, his waist circumference decreased by 5 inches, his apoB decreased by 10 points, and he had more energy, stamina and better sleep. ⭐️ We need to look at the WHOLE picture of cardio-metabolic health to reduce risk of heart attacks and strokes. ⭐️ And while medications are life saving, they MUST be paired with science based nutrition to protect blood vessel health and optimize heart function. ❤️ If you are looking for support on your heart health journey, I invite you to my next 6 week heart optimization group program that begins TOMORROW! 👉🏼 I have 2 more spots left! Intermittent fasting isn't a trend; rather, it's an age-old healing technique that our ancestors followed. The recent study suggesting a high risk of death with intermittent fasting raises questions and challenges its validity in many ways. There are many amazing benefits of IF if done well & under expert guidance. Let's discuss a bit about this:- Some 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐅𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 are as listed below:- -Weight Management -Improved Metabolic Health -Enhanced Brain Function -Cellular Repair -Heart Health and the list goes on. 𝐒𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: -𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫: While fasting, some individuals may experience hunger, which can be managed with proper hydration and balanced meals during eating windows. -𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐍𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬: It's essential to ensure adequate nutrient intake during eating periods to prevent deficiencies. -𝐀𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐝: It may take time for your body to adjust to fasting, so start gradually and listen to your body's signals. -𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐒𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞: Intermittent fasting may not be suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, individuals with certain medical conditions, or those with a history of eating disorders. Consult with a healthcare professional before starting. Let's refrain from jumping to conclusions hastily and instead delve deeper, rather than blindly following any study. Let's observe how much credibility this study maintains over time. 🌟 Interesting Insight: Did you know that drinking too much this holiday season can negatively impact your microbiome? 🍻🚫 It turns out that excessive alcohol consumption can disrupt the balance of bacteria in your gut, potentially leading to digestive issues and weakened immune function. 😱 📚 Insights: - Excessive alcohol intake can disrupt the delicate balance of bacteria in your gut, affecting your overall health. 🍷 - An imbalanced microbiome from alcohol can increase the risk of digestive issues, such as bloating and diarrhea. 💩 - Your immune system can also be compromised due to an unhealthy gut, leaving you more vulnerable to illnesses. 🤒 (Keep in mind that moderation is key! 😉) 💭 My Thoughts: It's fascinating how our lifestyle choices, even during the holiday season, can have such a significant impact on our health. Do you need to drop a few lbs in time for the holidays? I'm Vicky and I'm a nutritionist and gut health specialist. I noticed my weight (and my waistline) had been creeping up over recent months - you know when your clothes start feeling a bit snug? So 3 weeks ago I decided to take my own advice and try my Slimboost rapid weight loss programme to drop a few pounds. 3 weeks later I am pleased to report the following results: 🔥 10lb lighter 🔥 3½ inches slimmer round the waist 🔥 more energy 🔥 digestive issues and reflux resolved Check out my before and after pics taken literally 3 weeks apart and wearing the same outfit. I'm planning to continue for a couple more weeks until I've dropped a stone so watch this space So many people have commented, so I am organising a group for anyone who wants to share my success. I have a Zoom meeting planned for this Wednesday at 8pm so you can find out more. If you'd like to join us, please comment or DM me so I can send you the link. Friends are also welcome. I will add that many approaches to rapid weight loss involve gimmicky, fad diets. In this instance I have used my knowledge and skill as a nutritionist to come up with a recipe for success that is also a very healthy approach. And in fact if, like me, your BMI is in the overweight category or above and your other measures - blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol etc - suggest you might be at risk from developing diabetes or cardio vascular disease, rapid weight loss can be extremely beneficial to kick start your liver and pancreas into doing their job, provided its done in a healthy way.
