Gen Z in Manufacturing Ep. 6: How Gen Z is Redefining Responsibility and Purpose in the Workplace Davis, a 24-year-old Vice President of Operations at a design and engineering company. Leam shares his insights on how Gen Z workers perceive the manufacturing industry and what employers can do to attract and retain them. Here are a few key takeaways from the video on how to bridge the generational gap and create a workplace that is attractive and engaging for Gen Z: ✅Give them responsibility and ownership. Gen Z workers don't want to be micromanaged. They want to be trusted to take on challenging tasks and make their own decisions. Empower them to take ownership of their work and give them the freedom to experiment and learn from their mistakes. ✅Help them find their purpose. Gen Z workers are looking for more than just a paycheck. They want to work for a company that has a positive mission and vision that they can be a part of. Help them connect their individual work to the company's overall goals and show them how their contributions are making a difference. ✅ Provide mentorship and guidance. Help Gen Z workers understand the company culture and how their work fits into the bigger picture. ✅Create a culture of learning and growth. Gen Z workers are lifelong learners. They are eager to develop new skills and knowledge. Provide them with opportunities to learn and grow, whether through formal training, mentoring programs or simply encouraging them to participate in new projects. ✅Communicate openly and transparently. Gen Z workers value open communication. Be honest and transparent with them about the company's goals, challenges, and successes. Encourage them to share their feedback and ideas. By understanding and addressing the needs of Gen Z workers, you can create a more engaged and productive workforce. This will not only benefit your company in the short term, but it will also help you attract and retain top talent in the years to come. Can SMED save life? Can this process be done in a few seconds? Time consumed between last good product out and first new product in can mean something more fundamental in real lifetime situations. When every second matters, losing time walking and tightening and carrying are the last thing that should be done in these critical times. It requires "external preparation" but it worths it! What if there was a way to streamline this process, boost efficiency, and ultimately, increase your bottom line? That's where SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Die) comes in. - SMED is a structured approach to reducing setup times to under 10 minutes. - It focuses on separating internal (activities performed while the machine is stopped) and external (activities that can be done while the machine is running) setup tasks. This allows for a smoother transition between production runs, leading to several benefits: → Increased productivity: By minimizing downtime, you're essentially getting more out of your existing equipment. This translates to higher output and greater profitability. → Improved quality: Faster changeovers reduce the risk of errors that often occur during rushed setups. This leads to a more consistent and higher-quality product. → Enhanced employee morale: Frustration with lengthy setups is a real issue! SMED empowers employees with a more efficient process, leading to increased satisfaction and motivation. Implementing SMED might seem daunting, but effort put into practicing it can improve quality, cost, delivery, safety, morale and even life! #SMED #manufacturing #leanmanufacturing #productivity #efficiency

One successful approach to leveling is one-piece flow leveling, which I would like to talk about today. Another successful approach is capacity leveling. These can also be combined. (But please do yourself a favor and stay a way from a longer fixed repeating schedule EPEI leveling.) As the name already says, you should drive your lot size toward one. In addition to one-piece flow, this approach is also known as single-piece flow or continuous flow. #allaboutlean #operationalexcellence #leanmanufacturing #leansixsigma
