🎥 Series 3: Spotlight on an Apprentice Management Surveyor 💫 The third part of our video series at MIRE, features Mahinoor Ummi an apprentice management surveyor. Despite being in the earlier stages of her apprenticeship, Ummi has already taken on many responsibilities of a property manager. Her journey highlights the challenging yet rewarding nature of apprenticeships, providing invaluable real-world experience and a direct pathway to a career full of opportunities. The real estate industry has long faced a gender imbalance. According to a 2021 CREW Network study, women represent only 36.7% of the commercial real estate workforce globally, and a mere 9% hold C-suite positions. Factors such as unconscious bias, lack of mentorship, and limited networking opportunities contribute to this disparity. 🤷🏾♀️ To change this for the next generation it's crucial to promote diversity and inclusion through mentorship programs and the platforming of positive role models, offering hands-on experience and career growth for women. Encouraging more women to enter and advance in the field will help create a more balanced and dynamic industry. 💡Stay tuned for more inspiring episodes!

Welcome to a day in the life as an Apprentice Management Surveyor within the Welcome Team Temmy Akinrodoye has been with us since September and throughout these months, Temmy has been gaining both practical experience and theoretical knowledge, setting the foundation for a successful career within the property industry. 💭How has your experience as an apprentice been so far? It’s been very exciting; it’s very rewarding being involved with the management of large commercial properties at such a young age. 💭What have you enjoyed most about the apprenticeship so far? I have enjoyed learning new skills and engaging with tasks such as property inspections, and getting an insider’s view of how the property management industry operates, from tenant relations to property maintenance. 💭How did you first hear about this apprenticeship scheme? I heard about this apprenticeship scheme through LinkedIn, I never heard of Workman during my initial application process. 💭What inspired you to pursue a career in real estate? The property industry historically lacks diversity in leadership roles. As a Black woman, stepping into this field is an opportunity for me to challenge stereotypes, break barriers, and pave the way for greater inclusivity. I believe that representation matters, and my presence can inspire others to see the industry as a space where they, too, belong. 💭What skills or knowledge are you most excited to develop during this apprenticeship? I am most excited to gain more confidence in handling tasks like property inspections, rent collection, and client meetings

🌟 Social Value Week: Investing in Apprenticeships 🌟 At Arncliffe Gardens, our new housing scheme in Knowsley, we’re proud to have partnered with Vistry Group's Countryside Partnerships and Fusion21 to create employment opportunities for local people, including apprenticeships that open doors to long-term careers. One success story is Callum McLaughlin, a local resident who joined the project as a Trainee Site Manager apprentice. Callum previously trained as a joiner but wanted a career with greater opportunities for progression. Reflecting on his experience, he said: "I would recommend the apprenticeship route to anyone. This role offered everything I was looking for, and I was lucky enough to get the job. I’m excited to get qualified and continue progressing my career." Today the degree apprenticeship Cohort of Surveyors - Class 2024 graduated Northumbria University. This photo perfectly sums up why apprenticeships like this are so valuable. I'm a parent first and foremost, but this degree apprenticeship has enabled me to be parent/employee/student simultaneously. My daughter will always photobomb at any given opportunity, but that's ok, she was part of the reason I worked so hard. Degree Apprenticeships add value to the: 1. Employer - by giving their employee the education required to do the role and gain advantages from a newly skilled workforce, bringing new ideas and up to date ways of working to their organisation. 2. University - by providing their students with on the job experience they can apply to their studies and industry knowledge directly from working practices. 3. Apprentices - overall development and life by providing the opportunity to work and learn whilst earning a wage, and ultimately debt free. If you're thinking about taking on an apprentice or looking at a degree apprenticeship, I would fully recommend this route. I am happy to take any questions you may have on the logistics of balancing family/work/study, happy to share what I have learned. 🎉 A Successful Day at the Flexible and Inclusive Apprenticeship Session yesterday! With a huge thank you to the speakers Dawn Smart, Megan Stisted, marnie janaway and Hannah and Kai from The New Carnival Company Cic. The event aimed to bring together small and micro employers from across the island—particularly those in the creative and construction sectors—to explore the benefits of offering flexible apprenticeship contracts. Through insightful discussions, we showcased how collaborative approaches between businesses can help: ✔️ Address local skills gaps ✔️ Increase paid apprenticeship opportunities for young people on the Isle of Wight ✔️ Support employers in diversifying and growing their recruitment strategies to make their business as inclusive as possible.
