🌊 A Dive Into Innovation and Sustainability in Florida! 🌊 Last month, I attended two standout events in Florida: the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) and Ocean Exchange. The back-to-back scheduling of FLIBS and Ocean Exchange created a seamless opportunity to explore both cutting-edge technology and sustainable innovation in one trip. They say nothing screams “highlight reel” quite like a classic photo montage - so here’s a quick video capturing the energy, innovation, and #BoatingLifestyle from the trip. 🎥 One thing that stood out was the Innovation & Sustainability Awards, which recognized exhibitors advancing sustainable practices in the leisure marine industry. A big shout out to Katherine O’Fallon and Phil Purcell for organizing this impactful initiative. For an industry historically associated with high-emission practices, the shift toward sustainability is a promising and uplifting trend. Gulf of Mexico Alliance meetings "Who We Are The Gulf of Mexico Alliance [GOMA] is the regional ocean partnership for the Gulf of Mexico. We focus on enhancing the environmental and economic health of the Gulf of Mexico through increased collaboration. Led by the five Gulf states, our network includes over 150 participating organizations from state and Federal agencies, Tribal governments, communities, academia, non-governmental organizations, and industry. Our actions support commitments to strengthening community resilience, increasing regional data sharing, serving underrepresented communities, and improving management of coastal habitats and wildlife species." Celebrating World Migratory Bird Day! 🐦⬛ 🎊 Tomorrow, we will honour the crucial role birds play in our natural heritage and ecosystems. They not only provide cultural and economic benefits but also help control pests and manage waste. However, the latest report indicates that 30% of breeding birds are in decline, with migratory species particularly impacted by agriculture and urbanisation. In our Wadden Sea Flyway Initiative, we have been working with partners along the East Atlantic Flyway to improve their protection for over a decade. Since 2023, the European Commission has been supporting Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands through the Technical Support Instrument (TSI) to monitor waterbird movements along the East Atlantic Flyway.
