Stiesdal’s #TetraSpar #Demonstrator achieves an impressive 63% #capacity factor in its 3rd year of operation, showcasing the potential of #floatingoffshorewind. 🌬️💡 In the first two years, the unit recorded a combined capacity factor of 54%, with high floater availability rates of 97% and 98.3%. With the #availability at 99% for 2024, the capacity could very well continue to increase. This highlights the minimal impact of being a #floating #windturbine compared to traditional fixed-bottom turbines, reducing uncertainty for developers 🙌. For context, global offshore wind capacity averages 42% (Statista, 2022 data) and in Europe remained consistent at 50% in 2023 (WindEurope). 📈 The achievement underscores the progress of the #floatingwind sector, signaling promising developments ahead! 🚀 #renewableenergy #windpower 📸reNEWS - Renewable Energy News

INYANGA MARINE ACQUIRES FRANCE'S TIDAL TURBINE Inyanga Marine Energy Group has acquired the D10 tidal turbine, France’s first grid-connected tidal turbine. Located in the Fromveur Passage off Brittany's coast, the turbine has supplied clean energy to the island of Ushant since its deployment in 2015. The D10 turbine was previously owned by Sabella, a French company that went into liquidation in early 2024. Inyanga, which has managed offshore operations at the site since 2016, has now secured operational rights until August 2028. Inyanga praised the support from the Brittany Region and French Administration, stating the acquisition aligns with their shared vision for renewable tidal energy. The D10 turbine, operating at a depth of 55 metres, can generate up to 250 kW of power. Since its latest deployment in 2022, the turbine has shown no adverse environmental impact, ensuring a sustainable energy source for Ushant. ⚡ Follow MPS (Modern Power Systems) for all the latest news daily from the global power generation industry ⚡ #MPS #power #wavepower #renewableenergy #sustainableenergy

Exciting news! 🌊 HydePoint is collaborating with Deep Wind Offshore to explore offshore hydrogen production from wind farms. As we move towards a net-zero future, producing hydrogen offshore near wind farms offers tremendous potential. Deep Wind Offshore CEO, Knut Vassbotn, says, "By producing #hydrogen offshore, we can build wind farms further at sea, increase profitability, and avoid conflict areas. We're thrilled to explore opportunities, especially in markets like #Sweden." The European Commission's plan aims for 500 GW of wind power by 2030, making offshore wind a major renewable energy source. Offshore hydrogen production reduces grid investments and delivers renewable products to distant demand centers. Elin Steinsland, CEO of HydePoint, emphasizes early integration: "Optimizing offshore wind and hydrogen early on enhances asset value and reduces infrastructure upgrades. We're excited to contribute to a sustainable European market." Let's harness the power of offshore wind and hydrogen for a greener future! 🌬️🌱 #RenewableEnergy #HydrogenProduction #Innovation #PowertoX #OffshoreWind #Collaboration

Advising offshore wind, wave and tidal markets on engineering, numerical modelling, structures, O&M and more. An entrepreneur with a passion for cycling!
Last week I looked at offshore wind, this week another one of my favourite renewable energy technologies - tidal stream! What am I looking forward to? Well, whilst the technology is still relatively nascent this could be a big year for development! With a pipeline of UK CfD supported projects, the countdown is on for delivery! - Focused Project Development: Tidal developers moving into full developer mode and refining design, layout and operational aspects for the forthcoming projects - much akin to their offshore wind cousins. - Standardization and Regulatory Frameworks: Not an obvious one, but establishing clear standards and regulations for tidal energy development will attract investors and streamline project approvals. - Grid Integration and Storage Solutions: Integrating tidal energy with existing grids and developing efficient storage solutions will be crucial for next generation tidal projects to deliver big results. #tidalenergy #renewableenergy #2024trends PS they're all my favourite renewable energy technologies 😉

Breaking News in Offshore Wind Energy! 🌬️🔋 It's been an exciting week in the renewable energy sector! RWE-National Grid and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) have entered the race for New York's offshore wind round 5 (NY5). RWE-National Grid's proposal, Community Offshore Wind, could potentially create 700 jobs and bring an astounding $3 billion in economic activity—a major boost following the collapse of the state's 4GW round 4 in April. The collaborative efforts of RWE-National Grid are a testament to the evolving dynamics of the utility and power markets. Their proposal aims to replace 1.3GW of the previously lost capacity, highlighting the critical role of leadership and innovation in this rapidly changing energy landscape. Similarly, CIP's rebid of its 1.3GW Excelsior project showcases the resilience and persistence needed to thrive amidst such uncertainties, especially after GE Vernova's planned turbine was scrapped last year. 🔗 #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind #LeadershipInnovators

🌊The greatest potential of the offshore wind resource lies in deep waters, and thanks to offshore wind farms, we are revolutionising the way we harness this clean energy. These farms are key to accelerating the decarbonisation of the planet and fostering the creation of new jobs in the renewable energy sector. In areas where fixed offshore wind is not feasible, floating offshore wind emerges as an alternative. 🔧 The process of building a floating offshore wind farm includes the following steps: 1️⃣ Manufacturing. 2️⃣ Transport. 3️⃣ Installation. 4️⃣ Connection. 🔋 Result: At the end of this meticulous process, the floating offshore wind farm is ready to supply clean, emission-free, zero-kilometre energy. 🌐 Watch the full video for all the details of this process ⬇️ #SenerEnergy

Anyone who thinks that wind power has nothing to do with heavy engineering and manufacturing should take a moment to look at this turbine nacelle: the giant GE Haliade-X 13MW turbines for the 1.2GW Dogger Bank A project, worth £11 billion, will eventually supply enough power for six million UK homes. Had we had governments with foresight to reinvest the tax take for oil and gas in clean energy, we could have promoted the development of indigenous turbine manufacturing for the emerging large scale and floating wind farms as America, Denmark, Sweden and Norway are doing to great effect. Our Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult is doing some great work in this field with a limited budget, including supporting GE with the testing of its huge turbines. Unlike Scandinavian countries, who have invested oil and gas revenues in renewable R&D, the UK today finds itself being the home to the world’s largest offshore wind farms, while others design, manufacture and sell us the hugely valuable equipment. It’s not too late to learn from our mistakes and initiate a national programme to build turbine and blade technologies. The European Commission estimates that offshore wind must generate as much as 450 GW by 2050 for Europe to become climate neutral. Total global capacity from offshore wind is currently 23 GW, which means that production will need to increase twelvefold. That is a very valuable market; being a maker rather than taker in this market is critical to out economic and energy resilience.
