I've been trying to think of a phrase that could be the climate-positive equivalent to "Netflix & Chill," could we Hulu & Renew, HBO& Grow? From Solitaire Townsend's article below: "A study by Rare found that 70% of American respondents think Hollywood should include climate-friendly actions on screen to help address climate change." I'm not at #ClimateWeekNYC, but it's been great seeing this topic discussed so much more frequently this year. Attending Hollywood Climate Summit since day one, I would leave the sessions energized by the potential for storytelling to drive positive change, bringing everything I'd learned back to inspire my workplace. Ultimately I'd return, frustrated that if I couldn't affect these mindset shifts in my own colleagues, how would I ever change the collective behaviors of a global audience? Working in entertainment my entire career, I'd often felt complicit in getting people to tune in and escape to fantasy worlds. (And for existing as a channel to normalize our capitalist culture, selling products and generating consent for destructive lifestyles no one needs to consume.) For the past year, I've been trying to wield my design skills to get people off the couch and talking about climate and the real world around them with the same energy they use to talk about their favorite films and shows. It's nice to see I'm not the only one! What are your thoughts on how the entertainment industry can inspire climate action?

Waste of climate coverage. Most of the time, climate news and campaigns tend to preach to the converted. What a pity. That’s why I was super excited to talk to Dr Brett Staniland, a guy full of contrasts. He’s a former Love Island contestant and the first to say NO to fast fashion on the show. What a great way to get more people to think twice about the extremely wasteful behaviors of the fashion industry (and our own stupidity). This is a simple tool to evaluate whether our climate reality is represented in films, TV shows, and other narratives. The Climate Reality Check asks whether, in a given story: - Climate change exists - And a character knows it In some ways, any modern story that doesn’t acknowledge the implications of climate change is science fiction, because it’s happening here and now, and touches every aspect of life… health impacts, transportation, extreme weather, rising costs, migration & displacement, ecological health… But that reality is still largely absent from our on-screen stories. This is how we educate people about climate change — i.e. converting Autotopia lawnmowers to electric vehicles asap. The Carousel of Progress. Leaning can be fun.
