After months of focusing on other issues and life things, I’ve decided it’s time to get back into for stand-up comedy. This week marked a significant milestone in that journey, as I stepped back onto the open mic stage not once, but four times. My next mic will be my 200th (I am gonna stop counting now). Stand up comedy is, without a doubt, the most challenging form of spoken word. It demands creativity, resilience, and the courage to step out of your comfort zone. And that’s what I’ve been doing—writing new jokes, exploring fresh premises, and the development of punchlines that will resonate with audiences (this is not easy). I’m excited the unique challenges performing comedy brings. By no means am I great at this art form…. But my confidence in other aspects of my career helps me get up on stage and try. Comedy is a way to push boundaries, both personally and professionally. While stand up is not the right venure for all- I do suggest you should try new things that are out of your area of expertise and comfort. To my fellow professionals, remember the importance of pursuing passions that challenge and fulfill you. Life is complicated. Hard times come your way. Careers have twists and turns. But doing new and difficult tasks… and completing them… sets you up for dealing with the other hard knocks that come your way. #trynewthings #comedy #humorforbusiness #standupcomedy #comfortzone
Bravo Thom! I have only done StandUp once, at The Improv in Los Angeles, and it is very different from keynote speaking. I admire you for your commitment to personal growth through this risky challenge.
So true Thom! I really needed to have you in my Words of Art documentary. When is Apple coming out with their Time Machine lol! In the doc, Tim Conway Jr. touched on what you said from a Radio side but like you shared, the Art of Stand Up is the best there is! ALL THE BEST TO YOU THOM!
200! What a great milestone. You are an inspiration for all of us on taking that next big challenge. 👏
Well done! I’ve only done it twice, but it does take courage…and sometimes some “beer muscles”!
Hey buddy I need to go back to Austin and see you perform!
Thom, I have actually thought of this. My last open mic was a graduation set from Comedy College in Des Moines. Lots of funny things have happened since then. You are inspiring!
• Thom Singer, CSP 🌟 you don’t know what an inspiration this is to me. My life Dream is to do stand up. Please let me know your best gig. I’ll be there!!
Lets go brother!!! Love the refocus

6moOne more example of why your advice "Try New Things" is great. Yes, doing stand up made you a better speaker - but more importantly, it seems to make you a happier, more confident person 😎
