World Food Safety Day When food is not safe, people cannot consume the nutrients they need to remain healthy. More than 600 million people fall ill and over 420000 die every year after eating contaminated food. Food Safety is everyone's business, meaning that you play an important role in making sure food is safe to eat. This specific day aims to draw attention and inspire action to prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks, contributing to #food security, human #health, economic #prosperity, agriculture, market access, tourism and #sustainable #development. Some essential food safety tips to keep in mind: - Clean hands: wash thoroughly with soap and water, especially after touching raw meat or using the restroom. - Separate raw and cooked foods: use different cutting boards and utensils, to prevent cross-contamination. - Chill properly: refrigerate perishable foods promptly (within 2 hours) to prevent bacterial growth. - Avoid danger zone: bacteria multiply rapidly between 4°C (40°F) and 60°C (140°F), so keep hot foods above 60°C (140°F) and cold ones below 4°C (40°F). - Practice safe food storage: store raw meats separately from the other foods, and use airtight containers to prevent contamination. - Handle leftovers safely: refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours and consume them within couple of days; reheat thoroughly before consuming. - Be cautious with raw eggs: avoid consuming raw or undercooked eggs, due to the risk of salmonella. Remember, good safety practices help preventing foodborne illnesses and promote overall health. Stay #safe, stay #healthy! https://lnkd.in/dwtpG8Vp https://lnkd.in/dDQtsY_n https://lnkd.in/d4A_PxF4
