As church leaders, how do we guide young people to be both financially savvy and spiritually grounded? Here are 3 actionable steps: 1. Teach financial literacy alongside biblical stewardship. Organize workshops that cover both practical money management and the spiritual aspects of handling wealth. 2. Encourage mentorship programs pairing financially experienced members with youth. This can provide real-world guidance on earning, saving, and giving. 3. Create opportunities for youth to practice generosity. Set up youth-led fundraisers or service projects to instill the habit of giving early. Since #FinancialLiteracyMonth is not over, I’m going to have some bonus posts for the next few days. Let’s talk saving for kids. Which account should you choose - custodial or 529? You can choose both! But there are some key differences to keep in mind – If you absolutely do not want your child to get all the money when they turn 21 (18/19 in some states), the custodial account is not for you. If you know your child will not be going to private school for elementary/high school or attend college, a 529 is probably not it.
