A personal example of the difference between the buyer's journey and the customer's journey. My problem/pain: A toilet that clogs more often than previously experienced. An unexpected challenge after buying a new house. Through 14 months of experiencing this problem and solving it with a traditional plunger, these possible solutions came to mind during that time: 1. Hire a plumber to diagnose and solve the problem. 2. Invest in a drain snake myself and clear the plumbing myself. Hopefully, that solves it. On Oct 12, 2023, the pain was great enough that day for me to choose #2, and I checked Amazon for a drain snake to do the job. I am greeted with an option I was not aware of. The "High Pressure Air Drain Blaster Gun" that you see in the image below. I like new things and tools to try. I like to feel innovative. I like the idea of avoiding cleaning a disgusting drain snake, even if it solves the initial problem. I make the purchase—the end of the buying journey. Since I had used the plunger to solve the triggering event, I received the product 5 days later without an immediate problem to solve. I don't remove it from the box and put it in the bathroom closet. Over the next five months, the toilet clogged more than once, but I continued using the plunger to solve the problem. Why? This is the adoption gap between purchase and experiencing the value of the purchase decision. The plunger is the status quo. I know how to use it. I know it will solve this problem. It has a proven track record with me and most anyone I might talk to. The air gun is the innovative tool. I don't know how to use it. I don't KNOW it will solve this problem. It does not have a proven track record with me or most anyone I might talk to. AND The plunger is right next to the toilet, chilling in its incumbent position and ready to use. The air gun is in the closet, in a box. I'll have to unpackage it, assemble it, read the instructions, and learn how to use it...probably with some trial and error. Last month, the plunger required more effort than I was willing to give that day, so I opened the air gun. I was able to put it together but didn't really know how to use it. I went on Amazon to get full instructions, and it worked as advertised. I've used it twice since then and it has worked 3 out of 3 times with one trigger pull when used as intended. I have used the product, experienced its value, and will never go back to using the plunger. I have adopted the product and the experience was so great that I am now telling you about it.
