According to Talkspace, the Wellness Wheel offers a holistic approach to health, championing balance as the cornerstone of wellbeing. Dr. Bill Hettler's brainchild, the Wheel initially featured six dimensions of wellness as benchmarks for leading a life of significance and fulfillment. Over the years, one more category has been added, making it seven in total. The current Wellness Wheel encompasses physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, environmental, social, and occupational wellness. Each of these distinct yet interlinked facets contribute to the attainment of a full and harmonious life. Our Wheel shows some ideas to help achieve such a balance, spending time in nature or practicing mindfulness are two examples. What are some ways you create wellness in your life? Wellness & Balance. These are two notoriously difficult words in the legal profession, particularly nowadays when we operate in an ever-changing and volatile environment around the world. As the Executive Sponsor of the Baker Hughes Legal & Compliance DE&I Council, I was pleased to moderate a panel discussion on this important topic for the legal and compliance team. We explored what wellness and balance mean, why and how they matter, and, perhaps most importantly, that wellness and balance is not the same for everyone - our individual approaches to wellness and balance represent one of the many ways in which we are diverse and respecting each other’s approach is a great way to be inclusive. Personally, I realized that many members of the Legal & Compliance team share similar challenges with wellness and balance. Sometimes we work when we should be prioritizing time to exercise or meditate. Sometimes we’re thinking about a case when we should be thinking about dinner with our family or simply being present with them mentally and physically. Thanks to panelists Teresa Garcia-Reyes and Marco Citone, and Baker Hughes’ Wellness expert Kasia Curry, it was refreshing to hear that it’s ok to focus a bit more on work sometimes, as long as we’re also finding time for the other things in our lives. Vice versa, sometimes it’s ok to focus more on your own personal wellbeing vs work. It’s all about the balance. How you choose to energize yourself and take a break is entirely Italy up to you, whether to watch your favorite TV series, go to the Gym, pick your favorite book, take an adventure holiday, or go on a spiritual retreat, wellness is what works for you. I’m grateful to my panelists for sharing their experience and expertise to help us build a more inclusive culture and I would love to hear from you: what do you do to foster wellness and create balance in your life? For me, I like to watch Grey’s Anatomy during my downtime and catch up with my mom over a cup of tea. #WeAreBakerHughes #DEI #Wellness #Balance #EnergizingChange
