📣When you hear the term “community building,” what comes to mind? The first six weeks of school? Or perhaps some icebreakers you awkwardly engaged in on the first day of sleepaway camp? Maybe your place of employment wanted to boost team morale, so you played Two Truths and a Lie. We have all participated in Community Building at some point in our lives. It’s sometimes meaningful, sometimes not, and usually fun. But when a classroom community is built in the right way, for the right purposes, it can completely transform a student’s school experience. Young people today have lost the opportunity to grow up in a neighborhood where they can roam freely and build lasting connections. Working parents, caught up in long work hours, find it challenging to supervise their children playing outside and interacting with neighbors. As a result, many kids end up isolated in their rooms, glued to their phones, behind closed garage doors. In the past, leaving garage doors open symbolized a sense of community and trust. Children thrived in these environments, learning valuable lessons on friendship, respect, and navigating the world around them. It's time to revive these connected communities and empower our youth to become change-makers. By launching youth-led initiatives that inspire citywide transformations, we can reclaim the sense of togetherness and safety that we've gradually let slip away. Let's work together to create a future where neighborhoods are vibrant, supportive, and filled with opportunities for our young people to grow and thrive. #CommunityBuilding #YouthEmpowerment #NeighborhoodTransformation #loveyourcity

Would you park in a disabled parking space without a need or permit? Most people would say no, yet there doesn’t seem to be this level of respect for parent and child parking. I’ve just seen 3 separate cars pull into a parent and child space and a single adult get out and go into Tesco. Those without young children will probably wonder what the big deal is but getting 2 kids under 5 out of a car in a busy car park is a challenge and I see people using parent and child spaces almost every time I nip to the supermarket. I need space on both sides and the boot to get children and buggies in and out. I also need to keep my children safe and the parent and child spaces are designed to provide the safest path from car to door. Many parents don’t have the money or time to fix dents or scratches to theirs and others’ cars because they couldn’t get in a parent and child space. I talk a lot about community and building environments with respect, understanding and equity. It’s disappointing that we don’t show this kind of respect and courtesy to those who these spaces are designed for in our communities. If this is you. Please stop it. It’s selfish. *I know this isn’t strictly a ‘LinkedIn’ post, but I think it reflects how we can be too busy thinking about what’s good for us and not on being a team-player, which doesn’t serve us as a community at home or work!*

Shifting resources makes it possible to transform systems, and transformed systems mean that kids and families can thrive. But how can communities get past scarcity, inflexibility and competition? Civic infrastructure makes it possible to shift resources to where they’re needed most and supports community members to make decisions about how resources are used. See what the #CradleToCareer Network has learned about shifting resources to get better outcomes for kids: https://hubs.li/Q02Lqr-90

The process described below is crucial to proactively make system adjustments, rather than waiting until the end of the year. It can be difficult to pinpoint what drives your results, which is why we've made significant investments in technology such as “Real” to help our school system partners achieve this despite limited resources.
This could be a game changer! In family and community engagement ! Love this!!!! Small School Districts' Association Yuri Calderon Rachael Maves Eugene Park
