As I look back on my career, I'm filled with a deep sense of pride and gratitude for the experiences that have shaped my professional journey. For over a decade, I served as a primary care physician in Trinidad, dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centred care. My work was fulfilling, but like many International Medical Graduates (IMGs), I faced significant challenges when I moved to Canada 2.5 years ago. The reality is, finding your place as an IMG in Canada is incredibly difficult—whether it’s pursuing a medical license or charting a new career path. For me, the decision to explore an alternative path was not easy, but it was driven by a desire to continue making a meaningful impact on patient care, now from a non-clinical role. That’s when I discovered the Postgraduate Advanced Diploma in Digital Health & Data Analytics (DHDA) at the Michener Institute. The program was brand new, and I signed up for the second cohort, drawn by the opportunity to be at the forefront of healthcare innovation. Over the past two years, I’ve immersed myself in learning how digital health can transform patient outcomes and streamline healthcare delivery. The journey has been long and challenging, but it has also been incredibly rewarding. Today, I’m thrilled to share that I have successfully completed this education milestone. I’ve acquired new skills, broadened my perspectives, and positioned myself to contribute to the healthcare industry in a non-clinical, yet deeply impactful way. Innovation is now at the heart of my career, and I’m excited to see where this new path will take me. To all my fellow IMGs facing similar challenges—know that there are many ways to make a difference in healthcare. While the road may be difficult, the possibilities are endless. Here’s to new beginnings and the exciting journey ahead! 🚀 #CareerJourney #DigitalHealth #IMG #HealthcareInnovation #MichenerInstitute #DHDA #PatientCare #NewBeginnings

**How can we help International Medical Graduates (IMGs) succeed in Canada?** This question has been on my mind as I reflect on the incredible achievements of our #online IMG study group. Organized by Catholic Community Services of York Region dedicated staff Shamima Mili and powered by volunteer IMG facilitators/mentors, this program is truly one of a kind in Canada. Recently, 107 IMG participants of our study group took their licensing exam in September, and with the results just released in November, an impressive 80%+ passed! 🎉 This is a testament to their hard work, determination, and the power of a supportive community. But what moves me even more than the success stories is how we handle the challenges. When participants don’t pass the exam, they trust us enough to share their disappointment. And Shamima Mili communicates with them one by one, shows up with understanding, encouragement, and unwavering positivity—becoming a cheerleader in their journey. This group has been running for over a decade, bringing numerous IMG participants and facilitators across Canada (thanks to the digital technology) together four nights a week, year-round, to exchange knowledge, practice skills, and uplift one another. It is more than a study group—it’s a lifeline. It’s where IMGs find not only the academic resources they need to succeed, but also a community that believes in them, even when they struggle. Many former participants become volunteer facilitators/mentors themselves later on after they succeed the journey, driven by a desire to give back to the community that supported them. To every participant, facilitator, and Shamima Mili: Your collective efforts are not only helping IMGs achieve their dreams of practicing medicine in Canada but also addressing the critical need for more doctors in the country. This study group model is playing a vital role in helping Canada get qualified, dedicated medical professionals, and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this journey. Here’s to continued growth, resilience, and success! #IMGs #StudyGroup #OnlineSupport #CommunityConnections #SuccessInCanada #CCSYR
