Winter offers unique opportunities for staying active despite the colder weather. Embrace snowy landscapes by engaging in activities like cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, which not only provide a full-body workout but also allow you to enjoy the serene beauty of winter. Alternatively, try indoor activities like ice skating or indoor rock climbing to keep active while sheltered from the cold, infusing fun and physical activity into the winter months. And if you’ve ever shoveled snow, you *know* what an intense cardio workout it can be! To safely do each of these activities, you need to have strong muscles, heart, and lungs. Here’s some advice to help you avoid getting really sore, super-winded, or even injuring yourself - rather than jumping right into your winter activity of choice, be sure to put in some prep work with proper cardio and strength training, as well as some stretching. While Squats and Deadlifts might be typically seen as the best lower body exercises - Unilateral movements, or single leg exercises (like lunges & step ups), might be more beneficial for us Most people will rarely perform movements daily that require both legs working together. Walking, hiking, running, biking, and most swimming require the legs to work individually - even athletes with skating and jumping will require more single leg explosiveness If you need some ideas on different single leg exercises to perform comment below PS - Don't skip leg day.
