Our hydrogen projects at Keele University (HyDeploy) and Winlaton (HyDeploy 2), have seen partnerships between leading UK gas networks, university, engineering (Thyson), government and other commercial organisations, to conduct trials to understand how to blend hydrogen with natural gas, in order to be able to reduce the carbon footprint of the combustion processes fed with gas from the network, mostly producing heat. Although existing domestic cookers and boilers currently installed are not able to combust 100% hydrogen safely or effectively, a low percentage mix of up to 20% hydrogen:80% natural gas is proving safe and effective in lowering carbon emissions within existing infrastructure. https://lnkd.in/gqaTZC3 #hydrogen #greenenergy #carbonemissions

K°Focus H2 | Green hydrogen is one main element in the energy transition. For the purpose of storage and transportation, Hydrogen is often compressed. But its properties and characteristics are challenging, particularly with regard to safety. ► Enter Kelvion's Shell & Tube Double Safety Heat Exchangers – your reliable choice in (de-)compressing hydrogen for storage and transportation. Kelvion’s Shell & Tube Double Safety Heat Exchangers offer specific safety features, making them less vulnerable to hydrogen embrittlement and permeation as well as allowing monitoring of the status of hydrogen coolers used in hydrogen compression and decompression. Another apparently farcical situation for SA’s green hydrogen plant. At no stage in any of the materials has there been any mention of the need for natural gas (at least none I have seen). The project is touted to use “surplus” renewable energy to run the electrolysers to produce hydrogen and that hydrogen then drives the power station. Why the need for natural gas? But then the electrolysers need water. No decision has been made on the source of the water - either from the Murray via the existing pipeline or a desalination plant. But if from the Murray, a water purification plant would be needed. Not mentioned in the website for the project. Time for the Government to come completely clean on what it is doing. If you have appointed contractors, surely the contract covers the whole project without more bits and pieces continually added. And what is the projected cost now with all the additions?

Yesterday 22.10.2024, in Germany 9040 kilometres of hydrogen pipeline has been permitted by the Bundesnetzagentur. It is called the wasserstoff-kernnetz, it will be operated to supply Germany with their heavy and light industry with hydrogen. This is inline with the proposed hydrogen vision of the Germans. The cost will be 18,9 Billion Euros. More then half of the pipelines are repurposed based on natural gas #pipelines. This is a milestone for the #hydrogen society! #repurposing #hydrogen #naturalgas #transportpipelines #h2 #pipeline #reuse

Germany is planning to establish a core #hydrogen fuel network covering a distance of over 9,700 km (6,000 miles) at an estimated cost of approximately 20 billion euros ($21 billion) by 2032. This network will rely on existing natural gas pipelines for about 60% of its infrastructure, connecting ports, industries, storage facilities, and power plants. The project will be PRIVATELY financed, and the aim is to expand hydrogen usage to decarbonize polluting industrial sectors, such as steel and chemicals, which are challenging to electrify.

Infrastructure - See Full CompressorTech2 Article on Link Below! Making green hydrogen a readily available fuel relies on rapidly building production facilities. Companies like Plug Power are helping to lead the way, creating an end-to-end green hydrogen ecosystem. In this environment, effectively delivering sufficient hydrogen hydrogen relies on large reciprocating compressors which is why Plug Power has partnered with Burckhardt Compression for our sustainable compression solutions. The Clean Air Task Force has just released a report that indicates limited prospects for low-carbon hydrogen in a decarbonised power grid and could actually worsen the struggle to meet growing power demand. The report does not reject hydrogen in general but indicates that "...extensive use of low-carbon hydrogen for power requires closer scrutiny. It also confirms CATF’s initial analysis that clean hydrogen production should be prioritized for use in industry and heavy transportation – to decarbonize existing hydrogen production in industrial applications and to decarbonize heavy transportation." See the attached link and dig in. https://lnkd.in/d-BqmWxD
