⚠️ Two arrested in Nigeria after Australian boy's suicide—blackmailed for $500. 27 kids have been killed by the Yahoo Boys so far. 👉 Hundreds of thousands of kids every day are getting friend/follow requests from sextortion criminals on Instagram and Snap Inc.. A significant percent of kids fall for the trap. 📷 “It was all jovial banter at first; then it started to become sexualized. Then all of a sudden, "she" sent him racy pictures, and encouraged the boy to reciprocate." Then, they flipped the script. 💵 The scammers told the teenager if he didn’t pay $500 in online gift cards, they would send his photos to his family and school friends. 📲  "The messages are horrific. They're aggressive and put a lot of pressure on the boy to pay the money or his life would be ruined." ⌛ Hours later, he killed himself. Police said the family had done the right thing by speaking with their son about online safety. They even had a discussion with him about sextortion. 🕸️ "Evidence suggests the Nigerian scammers were using a 'scattergun' approach, targeting numerous children... it was clear that they are involved in sextortion more broadly, with other victims." 📈 In Australia, financial sextortion cases are up 400% in the last 18 months. The eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman - Grant and AFP have been warning about this. 💡 "The case was strikingly similar to the deaths of other schoolboys, Canadians Robin Janjua and William Doiron, and American Jordan Demay, who were all hounded to suicide by sextortion plots run by west African crime gangs." The Network Contagion Research Institute has been sounding the alarm on this cybercrime syndicate. 💥 It's time to start fighting this like organized crime. 💥 The criminals are organized. We need to be too. 💥 We join forces on April 24th for a global partnership to combat sextortion.
