The National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) has announced that major National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) changes will take effect in the first quarter of 2025. The NMFTA is implementing a phased approach, with the first changes coming in 2025. Here's a summary: 1. Standardized density scale for LTL freight with no handling, stowability, and liability issues. 2. Unique identifiers for freight with special handling, stowability, or liability needs. 3. Condensed and modernized commodity listings. 4. Improved usability of the ClassIT classification tool. Click on the below story to access the NMFTA page regarding resources to learn more.

An additional update from the National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc. on the upcoming #NMFC changes in Q1 2025. Per the post I'm sharing, thousands of NMFCs will be moving to 13 subcategories. The current standard density scale has 11 subcategories. This will be a huge change for not only single class NMFCs, but if the standard density scale is updating to 13 subs, that will affect the density based NMFCs as well. Every shipper, carrier, and 3PL will need to update their systems and processes. Not to mention that shippers will be expected to provide DIMs for all shipments. Personally, I love that, I'm a density "nerd", but this will require operational changes for all parties involved. I highly encourage you to sign up for the appropriate session in August to stay ahead of the game on these changes! #ltl #logistics #density #nmfta #supplychain #prepareforchange
Carriers, shippers, and 3PLs will be impacted by National Motor Freight Classification (#NMFC)® changes that are coming in 2025. Ensure you're prepared. “We estimate to move as many as 3,500 single-class items to 13 subcategories,” said Nate Ripke, director of commodity and standards development for #NMFTA. “With Docket 2025-2 and thereafter, additional changes are likely to be made, which is why we’re scheduling LTL Listening Sessions this Summer.” Our LTL Listening Sessions will offer all industry professionals in-depth insight into the reimagination process, the opportunity to ask questions directly and share experiences that can help shape the future of the NMFC. ➡️ Learn more and register now: https://bit.ly/4bZqIBG.

If you are an LTL shipper, staying informed about the upcoming changes in NMFC product classifications is crucial. In 2025, the NMFTA will introduce changes aimed at simplifying the classification system, reducing confusion, and enhancing user-friendliness. This long-overdue update will transition the LTL industry towards a density-based model to ensure freight of similar density is uniformly classified. Revisit your pricing agreements with LTL carriers and read more about these changes here: If you would like a free consultation with ADL regarding your product classification please feel free to contact me or visit our webpage. We help customers everyday who are using old NMFC#s that have changed or using the wrong NMFC# based on their product and packaging. https://lnkd.in/gkHNxTtY

The National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) is implementing significant changes to the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) system, set to take effect in 2025. LTL is shifting towards parcel-based pricing. These upcoming changes will impact carriers, shippers, and 3PLs. Here are a few things we can expect to see change soon: ∙Simplified classification with one standard density scale ∙Pricing based on the size and weight of your freight ∙Easier identification of NMFC items and freight classes ∙Consistent classification for similar freight ∙Carriers will need unit dims and weights from shippers/3PLs ∙Lower density classes for heavier freight These changes aim to enhance workflows, communication, and simplify LTL pricing. What are your thoughts on the proposed changes? And what will you do to prepare for the updated NMFC? #Freight #NMFTA #NMFC #LTL

There are signs that freight rates may have peaked. What could a liner, a shipowner, a forwarder already committed to slots/but no cargo do to lock in profitable freight rates through June next year? The National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc. (NMFTA) is responsible for implementing and regulating the National Motor Freight Classifications (NMFC). The NMFC defines standard rates for carriers to transport goods, sorts freight into categories, and protects against unfair freight rates. In 2025, there will be significant changes to freight classification in an attempt to simplify processes and reduce friction between carriers, 3PLs, and shippers. In order to help companies prepare for the changes, the NMFC will host listening sessions throughout August where industry professionals can ask questions and get clarification.
