Project Engineer, Enrico Gutierrez, is our next team member highlight for our #SNYLturns20 series. When did you first become interested in architecture or engineering as a career? 🎤”Funny enough, computer games were an early source of inspiration for my interest in art and architecture. Growing up, the process of building and designing something, whether it is a virtual city or the theme park of my dreams, was very attractive to me. The sense of accomplishment after seeing something completed was a major reason architecture/engineering appealed to me.” What is your favorite Denver-area building or structure? Why? 🎤”Out of all of the amazing buildings that have gone up in the Denver area since moving to Colorado, one of my favorite buildings is the historic Denver Union station. The building, along with the subsequent development of its surrounding neighborhood, quickly became a hub for me to grab coffee, read, and people watch.” What has been your most proud moment as an architect/engineer? 🎤”I think my most memorable moment was the first time that I saw one of my projects fully completed.” What do you see as the largest barrier to a zero-waste building, city, and world? 🎤”Studies show that concrete generates 8% of human-made CO2 emissions. As engineers, it is important for us to reduce the quantities of concrete that we specify in our projects, and to specify efficient concrete mixes.” Any guilty pleasures you would recommend? 🎤”Buying yourself a nice bike - it fundamentally changed how I perceive the built environment. Plus, it's great exercise!”

Build with meaning and purpose. Working in construction is about more than just building buildings. It’s about making a real difference in the community. Every project has a purpose here. We don’t do meaningless work. Our work has a lasting impact. Think about the pride in knowing you brought clean water to a new neighborhood. Or seeing teens drive for the first time on a road you helped create. That’s what we do. We believe in building structures that matter. If you want to find purpose in your work, join us. Be part of a team that builds with heart and soul. Work with people who care about what they do. And make a difference with every project. #hiring #anchorconstruction #utilities

Making it easy to live sustainably Rowanbank Gardens’ architectural form re-establishes the street edge, using high-quality materials and robust detailing to create a strong civic presence. This perimeter backdrop frames a central landscaped courtyard, fostering a sense of community and tranquillity within the development. A variety of roof forms accentuate the residential character and respond thoughtfully to the site’s diverse surroundings. Central to the project’s vision of placemaking is a pragmatic and accessible approach to sustainable living. By prioritising passive design strategies, the development thoughtfully anticipates future lifestyles through considerations of how people will work, move, socialize, and manage energy in years to come. This is exemplified in the way the building responds to energy use, the encouragement of green transport means, the creation of social green spaces in an urban context, and low energy solutions. The project was one of the first large scale residential projects in Scotland to utilise internal Electric Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP) within apartments. These individual ASHP’s provide individual control over energy use for residents, reducing heat density demand, extensive pipe runs, and the associated heat loss that is typically associated with centralized heating networks. The development achieves an average 50% reduction in energy consumption and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions compared to the Target Emission Rates set by the Scottish Technical Standards, a success that makes us enormously proud.
