Future Horizons driven by retrospective findings - NOT !? https://lnkd.in/gdeP-4U https://lnkd.in/dEhe3fX Richter Hans Gavle University Faculty Member "Information technology (IT) has increased and changed the load for individuals in the workplace. Small displays and small text size on many IT applications leads to a reduced viewing distance and poorer posture with increasing biomechanical and oculomotor loads as a result. Mental stress related to the high amount of information received and processed contributes in parallel to increase the level of activity in the neck/shoulder/arm muscles.Demographic trends also mean that the proportion of older workers who regularly perform visually demanding work has increased. When the visual system’s muscles, sensory and/or perceptual functions are subjected to high levels of demands that are outside that for which the eyes are evolutionarily adapted to cope with, this impacts on health and wellbeing. The overall goal of my current research, in this context, is to explore and describe linkages between visually deficient work conditions and its effects on physical and mental health and performance." Sunday thoughts! Working in education can be demanding. Teachers now wear numerous hats to support learners and ensure outcomes in an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive environment. The evolving role of teachers involves not just imparting knowledge but also addressing diverse student needs. The importance of having a supportive network of colleagues cannot be overstated. The time spent at work often is the same spent with friends and family, emphasising the significance of collaborative working, open discussions, and the sharing of advice and concerns. These interactions, often as short as five-minute conversations, play a crucial role in maintaining mental health, as colleagues share similar experiences and challenges. I am fortunate to work in a faculty that recognises this need, providing a dedicated wellbeing area to foster such support. #teamwork #collaboration #supportiveculture

Tipping point: The staff and student wellbeing crisis in higher education The wellbeing of staff is a crucial component of any genuine whole university approach to mental health, and academic environments should be supportive where all campus community members can thrive. Recent research indicates that university staff have higher levels of stress and burnout than the general population and low levels of wellbeing. They are struggling with mental health challenges and demand for mental health services among this cohort shows no signs of slowing. Supporting students who are experiencing poor mental health can also have negative consequences for staff wellbeing if staff are not adequately prepared and supported. Institutions should take a Whole University Approach, using a wider lens with health and wellbeing investment to ensure everyone feels supported. #support #wholeuniversity #mentalhealth #wellbeing #employees #colleges #students

Every Linkedin "failure only makes you stronger" Influencer or Guru would do well to read this article and study. They would find out what the rest of us who aren't interested in paying $1995.00 for their course already know: - Exaggerating the likelihood of success after failure may make us less willing to help others who are struggling. - People who exaggerated the benefits of failure are less interested in channeling taxpayer dollars to support people with drug addiction and formerly incarcerated people. - The outside perspective (looking at someone else's failure) tends to focus on what can be learned from a failure, overlooking that people living through a setback may not perceive it as a learning opportunity. But they won't.
People often overestimate their resilience following failure, research suggests

On this University Mental Health Day, Kate Lister discusses the importance of embedding staff wellbeing within Higher Education. If staff are struggling, how can we expect students to thrive? Wellbeing is a topic that supervisees & I regularly discuss within supervision. “Staff and student wellbeing are not separate issues and actually need to be considered as mutually dependent parts of the same ecosystem.” #UniMentalHealthDay #mentalhealth #wellbeing #wellbeingatwork #staffwellbeing
