We understand that when you call 9-1-1, you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency. You are calling on what may be your worst day and you may be overwhelmed with fear, frustration, and even anger. While our Emergency Communication Specialists (ECSs) are trained to work with you during these moments, we still ask that you please, be nice. When you call 9-1-1, our ECSs will ask you a series of questions, starting with “what’s the location of your emergency?” These questions will not delay your response. It is important that you answer these questions to the best of your ability, so that our ECSs can determine what emergency response is needed and so that emergency responders are armed with all the information they need so that they can respond appropriately. We are here with you and for you! So please, be nice.

EMSA Emergency Services Coordinator Bonny Wolf shares her insight on an important aspect of emergency planning – having a pre-designated location where you and your family will meet if you can’t get in contact with each other during an emergency. September is National Preparedness Month. Let's use this time to ensure we're all ready for an emergency by starting with simple steps like identifying a family meeting place. #FamilySafety #NationalPreparednessMonth #EMSA #BePrepared

"Empowering Communities and Building Resilience: Guiding Risk Mitigation through Innovation and System Dynamics | DrPH Doctoral Student"
🌟 Excited to share insights from my evaluation program at the Partners in Emergency Preparedness conference this Wednesday! Join me as I delve into 'Building Resilience for Vulnerable Communities through Emergency Preparedness.' 💪 In today's world, trust, readiness, and confidence in government authorities are pivotal for vulnerable communities to navigate emergencies effectively. My presentation explores how we can bolster this resilience through tailored programs and trusted partnerships, drawing on research from real-world emergencies and the recent challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. I'll be sharing an overview of the evaluation plan developed for the Seattle Office of Emergency Management, which sheds light on the impact of community-based outreach initiatives. From surveys to interviews, we will examine program effectiveness, barriers to engagement, and the opportunities for improvement. As a DrPH doctoral student at Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, I'm passionate about bridging research and practice to strengthen community resilience. Join me to uncover the critical role of trust and readiness in fostering resilient communities. Let's enhance emergency preparedness together! 🚀#TulaneSPHTM #EmergencyPreparedness #PartnersInEmergencyPreparedness. https://lnkd.in/gTF8GSDc
