Pictured below is an aerial shot of our Acton Storm Tanks site where we have excavated a 31m-deep shaft and built interception chambers to intercept and redirect existing flows from Stamford Brook sewer into our main 25km sewer. Good to see the different approaches taken in solving issues
In August, we’ll be starting work in West Lilling to reduce storm overflow discharges into a tributary of Black Dike. The work is being carried out by our contract partner, Morrison Water Services, and includes installing 430m of new surface water sewer pipes as well as connecting road gullies and surface water from properties to the new surface water sewer. We hope to have completed this work by the end of the year and once finished, it will reduce storm overflow discharges into Black Dike, which flows into the river Foss. What is inflow & infiltration? Inflow and infiltration (I&I) are terms for the ways that storm water runoff and groundwater (clear water) make their way into sanitary sewer pipes.
