Road safety is important to all road users, particularly when it comes to sharing the road with heavy vehicles. Prime location, plenty of parking space, clean facilities, driver safety and fatigue management are some of the key priorities outlined in the Western Sydney Heavy Vehicle Rest Area Engagement Report published recently that explores what heavy vehicle drivers need when it comes to rest stopping and fatigue management in Western Sydney. The report provides an overview of engagement undertaken with the road freight industry between September and October 2023 and the resulting feedback and will be used by Transport for NSW to inform location and design options for a new dedicated heavy vehicle rest area in Western Sydney. 🛣️ I am enjoying the peace and quiet this weekend from the first scheduled daytime closure of all lanes on the M25 (between junctions 10-11), since it opened in 1986. 💡The origins of the M25 go back to 1944 and the Greater London Plan, when Patrick Abercrombie proposed an orbital motorway around London. (There had been talk of a series of roads around London since 1913.) 🚧 The Greater London Plan evolved into the London Ringways project in the early 1960s, and by 1966, planning had started on two projects, Ringway 3 to the north and Ringway 4 to the south. 🚙 By the time the first sections opened in 1975, it was decided the ringways would be combined into a single orbital motorway, as Abercrombie first suggested. 🍽️ When the M25 was finally opened (by Margaret Thatcher) in 1986, there were no service stations. The first one opened in 1987 at South Mimms. 🚛 Today the M25 is one of the world's largest orbital motorways and carries 15 percent of the UK's motorway traffic, or 200,000 vehicles and 10,000 HGVs a day. #roadconstruction #M25 #lifelonglearning #historybuff

DVS GRACE PERIOD UPDATE 📢 Fleet operators now have more time to comply with the new 2024 DVS requirements after an agreement on extending the existing grace period. London Councils have extended the DVS grace period by three months, following efforts from industry trade groups. 🗓️ The new deadline is the 4th May 2025, giving operators the extra time needed to fit the required equipment. DVS changes will still start on 28th October, and operators must apply for the grace period.
