44% less injuries with e-scooters in 2023 The latest study from Micro-Mobility for Europe shows a significant decline in e-scooter and e-bike injuries in 2023: in comparison to 2022, shared e-scooter injuries per million trips fell by 44%, shared e-bike injuries per million trips decreased by 39%. Overall, the risk of injury when traveling on a shared e-scooter is lower than riding an e-bike: 3.3 accidents requiring treatment occur on an e-scooter per million journeys, compared to 3.9 accidents per million journeys on an e-bike. E-scooters and e-bikes are becoming safer across Europe, according to official accident figures. Christy Pearson, Voi’s Director of Market Development, explains how accidents resulting in medical treatment have fallen for the third year in a row. Reported injuries per million trips dropped by a huge 44% for e-scooters and 39% for e-bikes in 2023 compared to 2022. Micromobility injuries requiring medical treatment have dropped for the third year in a row in Europe, a new study has found. Micro-Mobility for Europe – a coalition of shared micromobility providers – aggregated data based on incident reports by Bird, Bolt, Dott, Lime, Tier and Voi for more than 300 million e-scooter journeys and 58 million e-bike rides. The number of incidents requiring medical attention and fatal injuries dropped by 19% from 2022 for e-scooters, and 16% for e-bikes. “The risks associated with e-scooters are often exaggerated when compared to other forms of micromobility… It is crucial to recognise the important role that all forms of micromobility play in transitioning to sustainable transportation. 44% INCREASE in dockless bike ridership 💥 🚲 Overall bike growth increased 55%, making up 45% of all shared mobility trips. 🛴 Shared scooter ridership decreased by 14%. 🛵 Mopeds completed 28% fewer trips this quarter compared to last year - the lowest ridership across all modes - yet maintained an excellent utilization rate. 🚗 Although shared cars only completed 8% of all shared mobility journeys in Q3, they experienced the second largest ridership growth at 22%. Are you evolving, adapting changes? That’s a parking spot for a cargo bike. The way we travel have change compared to how it was 100 years back & it’s continuously changing with newer type of vehicle fitting the needs of time and environmental policy.  The demand of what I call’‘bridge vehicles‘‘ will be in demand due to pricing point and cost efficiency in operation for the likes of e-bike, 3 wheeler and light transporters with a lower travel distance per charge. While the need for efficiency takes up centre stage, where does this place us as part of players in an ever changing world & economy. As co-chair of Micro-Mobility for Europe, the European industry association of the leading providers of shared micromobility services, I'm glad that we can share very encouraging numbers about #safety of shared #scooters and electric #bikes today. As every year, the whole sector aggregates safety data, which can use used to analyse trends, and they are encouraging: Compared to 2022, the number of all reported injuries in 2023 declined by 44% for e-scooters and by 39% for e-bikes 📉. Every road injury - be it by car, private bike or scooter, shared scooter, as a pedestrian or with another means of transport - is one too many. There is a need to continue collaboration among all stakeholders, create separated cycle paths and lowering car speeds 🤝. 🛴E-bikes are shaking up the transportation landscape in the UK, offering a flexible, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional modes of travel. The considerations for owning e-bikes are crucial in understanding their impact on micromobility. While cost-savings and health benefits are drawing people to this mode of transport, the challenge of e-bike theft and the subsequent reluctance to park in public spaces are significant barriers. E-bike owners are still using cars for daily commutes which proves that while e-bikes offer great benefits, they may not fully replace cars anytime soon. The cargo bike - the solution for your (second) car? A recent study* published in Transportation Research Part F: Traffic Psychology and Behaviour** found that #cargobikes – and cargo bike #sharingsystems – have a notable impact on car ownership. 💡Up to 18% of those surveyed say they’ve reduced their car ownership by at least one car, either by getting rid of one of their own cars or deciding against buying one. Of those 18%, 🌳 80% reduced or outright abolished their car for environmental reasons. 💰 48% did so for financial reasons. Personally, I am a daily cargo bike user. It enables me to drive the kids to their violin less or soccer training, bring home the groceries, etc and quite generally just move with 1-3 passenger in a much quicker way than with any other mode of transport.
