Today is a special day for BLK BOX as we celebrate our 12th birthday! 🎉 To mark the occasion, we're excited to share a fly-through video showcasing how we manufacture our equipment and what sets us apart as a business. From day one, myself and the team have tried to build a sustainable and mission driven company that makes a difference. Early on in my career I learned about the concept of missionaries & mercenaries in business from John Doerr and have always strived to build a mission driven company. So, what sets missionaries apart from mercenaries in business? Here are a few key differences: -Global Impact: Missionaries prioritise contributing to the greater good and building a global community, rather than solely focusing on immediate gains. -Cultivating Relationships: Unlike mercenaries who prioritise short-term gains, missionaries invest time in building lasting relationships. - Ethical Foundations: Missionaries operate with a strong ethical compass, making decisions that align with values and principles. This commitment to integrity fosters a positive company culture and enhances reputation, which is vital for sustained success. -Employee Engagement: Companies led by missionaries attract and retain top talent due to their compelling mission and vision. -Innovation at the Core: Missionaries are innovators by nature, driven to create solutions that address real-world challenges. When Dave Hallam hired me in 1989, he told me that at Hallam-ICS, “we work to live, we don’t live to work.” As a 21-year-old engineer entering the workforce, this was very appealing as I had many interests along with a desire to grow personally and professionally! Over time, I came to appreciate the broader philosophy that “working” allows each of us to uniquely craft our “lives” to match our values, dreams, and beliefs. At Hallam-ICS, our work of engineering, control systems, and safety allows us to live generously, sharing with our employee-owners, our clients, and our communities. At the end of 2022, we became a Benefit Corporation, with the following non-financial goals: - A General Public Benefit of "creating a material positive impact on society and the environment."            - A Specific Public Benefit of "providing equitable distribution of wealth through our commitment to employee ownership and our ESOP." And, "promoting broad-based employee-ownership as an equitable means of company ownership." - And "being a positive force to improve the lives of our employee-owners and the communities in which they live and work." We endeavor to be transparent in our actions and make our progress available publicly through our recently published 2023 Annual Benefit Report. We invite you to read through the report and encourage you to provide us feedback on how we can improve.

ICYMI Super excited about my new adventure at Groundswell! And if you saw my post and didn't know what I was getting into...here's a summary. (Also, if you're in the #CSR or #socialimpact space, let me know as I'd love to chat and pick your brain!) So what do we do? Groundswell is a corporate giving and volunteering platform that helps increase the impact 💰 and reduce the administrative burden of corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs. Most employees have no idea (or they forget) about their company matching programs and those funds never make it to charities. And if they do request a match it can take up to 90 days to get there 😱 We're focused on empowering employees to be super givers and making it easier for companies to roll out these programs. The team is amazing and I can't wait to see what we can do (also, if you have a matching/giving/volunteering program, don't forget to use it!).
