Five things that I wish I had known before releasing my first app to the App Store and PlayStore! 🚀 1) Create your developer account as soon as possible: it took me almost a month to get my Apple developer account. Apple wasn't accepting my payment method (I still don't know why), but the website said nothing about a failed transaction. Instead, I got an order confirmation email that said they were reviewing my application and will contact me in up to 2 business days. They never did. Leason: if you create a new Apple developer account and they don't charge you right away, contact support. It will take time, but they will reply. 2) Gather your documents: both stores will ask you for documents proving your identity, and the Play Store will ask you for a document proving your address. Lesson: Gather your documents and get ready. You can send a bank statement to validate your address. 3) Required closed beta program: the PlayStore requires a closed beta program for all new apps. You have to run this program for 14 days, and to start it, you need at least 20 testers. So, you'll need to gather emails from 20 people willing to test your app. Lesson: Create a beta tester group as soon as possible. Don't wait until your app is ready. 4) Apple's App Tracking Transparency: Apple asks you to declare if your app shares users data for tracking purposes, and if so, you have to give the option to the user to opt-out. This is so good for the users! I added Google's analytics to my app to see some basic analytics, but this library uses the Advertising ID of the device to track users. I don't want to track my users, so I removed it and plan to use MixPanel instead. Lesson: Read carefully about the data and privacy policy of the third-party services that you use. 5) Appstore optimization: - Do not add spaces before or after every comma in your keywords! - Add a descriptive name, e.g., AnalogicToDos - Write ToDos without an assistant. - Add a subtitle describing what your app does differently from others, e.g., A ToDo app not powered by AI.
