https://lnkd.in/edbtgY2H How quickly will the new Labour government forget how unrepresentative their election has been? Each Labour seat in Parliament required on average nearly 35,000 votes whereas the 4 Green Party Seats required nearly half a million each. That is not fair and does not produce good democratic government. In the UK we worry that PR will produce unworkable coalition government making poor decisions. Are we that naive that we think the evidence of First Part The Post has been a roaring success? What we need is decision making that reflects the needs of all of us, not just those with money and influence. Please support the introduction of PR under this new Labour government and let Kier Starmer know you want this.

See the latest from our analysis of what to expect from a Labour government after the 4 July election. What do you know of the prospective slate of potential Labour MPs? We aim to do the hard work of distilling all the noise into clear actionable insights.
For a party set to win the General Election, surprisingly little is known about Labour’s swathe of Prospective Parliamentary Candidates (PPCs). To better understand what is likely to shape the future direction of a Labour government, Penta has analysed the public views and campaigns of almost 150 of Labour’s PPCs throughout 2023 to gain an understanding of what will motivate them post-election. Penta’s analysis has identified a number of key areas where Labour PPCs diverge from the party’s leadership. We believe that these divergences are an important signal to what they will campaign on - and pressure the Labour Government on - if they are elected to Parliament on 4th July. It’s been a busy week for General Election polling. I appreciate this might not be exciting for everyone (sadly it is for me!) but it does matter for businesses whose operating environment will be determined by a new government. First, the poll from Survation predicting 468 seats for Labour, leaving the Conservatives with just 98 MPs. This was followed by yesterday’s YouGov poll predicting a slightly lower number of seats for Labour, but still an impressive 403. Regardless of which of these is most accurate, polling consistently points to a Labour government. If you’d like to have a chat about what this means for your business, just let me know. In the meantime, take a look👇 at our guide to the key issues for the Party, what they mean for business, and how to engage effectively: https://bit.ly/3V0I77o

Guess who said this (and when): "The Government in Whitehall is overloaded, and as a result people in the regions grow increasingly impatient about the decisions being made in London which they know could be better made locally. Under our new style of government, we will devolve government power so that more decisions are made locally. We will bring forward a sensible measure of local government reform which will involve a genuine devolution of power from the central government." Find out in Neil Barnett and Paul Hayes' excellent Y-PERN post on devolution post-Labour election.

🌟 Labour's Victory in the 2024 General Election 🌟 As many know, we have woken up to a big change in power, with Labour winning the general election, securing over 400 seats with an estimated 35% of the vote – the lowest share for a governing party in history. New Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer will form the next government. Rachel Reeves is expected to become the first female Chancellor of the Exchequer, with plans to review the nation’s balance sheet and implement new fiscal measures. Labour's key missions include: 📈 Boosting economic growth 🌍 Making Britain a clean energy superpower 🚓 Enhancing public safety 🎓 Increasing opportunities for all 🏥 Strengthening the NHS It will be interesting to see their manifesto unfold and how these initiatives are implemented. Will we be better off? Time will tell. #UKElection #LabourParty #PoliticalChange #FutureOutlook #Accountants https://lnkd.in/ehwpakRa

On the eve of the UK’s General Election, as Labour prepares for an almost-certain landslide victory, it's crucial to get to know its Prospective Parliamentary Candidates (PPCs). To do so, Penta has conducted an in-depth analysis of the public views and campaigns of nearly 150 Labour PPCs throughout 2023 to shed light on the future direction of a Labour government and the motivations of its MPs. Our findings reveal several key areas where Labour PPCs diverge from the party’s leadership, indicating the issues they are likely to prioritise and advocate for if elected on July 4th. These insights provide valuable signals about the pressures and campaigns we can expect from a future Labour government.
