Today we released a brand new episode of the Asklé B&B Corner about Domestic Violence. It was a challenging conversation and one I was very nervous to publish. This is clearly an important and sensitive topic. Filled with emotion and complexity. What is happening seems obvious - the fact that violent, aggressive men are the problem is clear. Yet the solutions are anything but. Why is this continuing to happen? And what the hell are we to do about it? Stephanie Slater and I discussed it with as much respect as we could muster, yet in the end we had to cut the episode short because we were unable to find a path forward. So we decided to make it Part 1, of how many parts we are unsure. But Part 2 will be released soon, and I’m excited to say that we will be speaking with Professor Vincent Hurley (PhD) - a Macquarie University lecturer specialising on the contemporary role of the police and policing within criminological theories. For those who watched Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Q&A program last night you will have seen his passionate and emphatic plea for politicians to take meaningful action. In his own words “it is worse than appalling.” The short clip below has received more than 70,000 likes since this morning. Clearly more should be done, and can be done.
